Zackary William McKinzie
Zackary "Zack" William McKinzie, age 28, a lifetime resident of Northeast Washington, passed away on October 5, 2021 at his Valley, WA home. Zack was born on May 19, 1993 in Colville, WA the son of Arvin James (Jr.) and Jennifer Kay (Sell) McKinzie.
He spent his early years in Northport where he attended school and resided until he was eight. He then moved to Colville where he attended grade school and his first two years of high school. Zackary had a love for the game of football. He played in grade school and for Colville High School through his sophomore year. His final two years of high school were in Northport and he was so proud to have brought his training and experience to the first football team Northport had seen in sixty years. Zack graduated in 2011 from Northport High School and then worked odd jobs until his employment at Columbia Cedar. His following work opportunities included Les Schwabs Tires and then to Alaska where he learned to drill with Falcon Drilling. He eventually took his knowledge of drilling to the drilling fields of North Dakota. There he worked as a supervisor to Triple S Enterprises until a work accident left him paralyzed in 2015. Zack didn't let his paralysis slow him down. He returned to N.E. Washington and after their Turkey Hunt First Date, he knew he had found the love of his life. On Aug. 28 of 2021, he and Shelbi exchanged vows and committed their lives to one another. Together, with Jonathan, they resided in their home in Valley, WA. Zack not only became a husband but was blessed to become "Daddy Zack" and delighted in having Lil Jon as a son.
Zack had a passion for the outdoors and loved to share his love of hunting and fishing with anyone who had a likewise interest. Some of his best times were spent hunting with his dad, brothers, sister, Shelbi and Lil Jon. He was constantly in motion and when he wasn't in the outdoors he would be in his garage working on small engines. He especially liked to work on chainsaws and weed eaters but also enjoyed working on guns and welding. Zack loved wheeling and dealing for anything and everything. He was reliable, generous with his time and his resources and was always willing to help someone on a moments notice. He created friendships easily, treasured the time and company of others and cared wholeheartedly. He lifted hearts to laughter, poked fun and played pranks all in an effort to see a smile. Zack was a gentle giant who never left a conversation without saying "I love you" or expressing his charisma and gratitude.
Zack was preceded in death by his grandparents Larry and Carol Sell of Northport, WA and Arvin Sr & Verlene McKinzie of Northport, WA.
He is survived by his wife, Shelbi McKinzie, at the home; step-son, Jonathan Happ, Valley, WA; parents, Jennifer McKinzie (Mike Luke) of Northport, WA and Arvin James "A.J." McKinzie (Kim) of Colville, WA; siblings, Jacob McKinzie, Scotty Fata and Kailee Fata (Michael Nullet), all of Northport, WA, and Alex McKinzie of Colville, WA; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
