Yolanda Quero
Montgomery
Jan 5, 1948 — Feb 19, 2025
Colville
Yolanda Quero Montgomery, age 77, a 29-year resident of Kettle Falls, WA passed away on February 19, 2025 in Chewelah, WA. Yolanda was born on January 5, 1948 in Ventura, CA, the daughter of Cirelo Marana and Helen (Barajas) Quero.
Yolanda was raised in Ventura, CA and the surrounding area. In 1966, she graduated from Ventura High School and began working in the citrus industry. On December 6, 1969, she met a young service man named, Mickey Montgomery at the Port Hueneme Naval Base. Ten days later he proposed and on January 17, 1970 they began a marriage of 55 years. Upon Mickey's return from Vietnam, the young couple moved to Troy, MT for a time. They then moved to Oxnard, California where they resided for nearly 5 years. Montana drew them back, this time they would settle into Libby, MT. Yolanda was working in the home raising their son, Fernando, who was born in 1991. She loved her role as a wife and mother. She took great pride in her home and the amazing meals she cooked daily for her family. In 1995, their family moved a final time, this time they grew deep roots in the Kettle Falls and surrounding communities. Fernando preceded Yolanda in death on Sept. 20, 2021. She cherished his memory every day and looked forward to the day she would see him again, this time in Heaven.
Yolanda was not only an amazing cook, she quilted personalized baby blankets that were so beautiful, they often became a piece of art that hung in the home of the receiving family. She enjoyed being outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing alongside her husband, Mickey. She was even exploring golf before her degenerative back disease began restricting her ambulatory abilities. It limited her mobility, but she never let it slow her down nor reduce her momentum. She loved to drive their golf cart around town with Mickey to visit friends and get the mail. Yolanda was an excellent mom and supported Fernando throughout his education and athletics. She was a proud mom on the bleachers cheering on her son, throughout his young years of football and into his college play. Yolanda was also a t-ball and little league mom and coach for many years. She had a great sense of humor and could create a smile as a soft-hearted jokester and with her fun personality. Yolanda had spunk and fiest that was anchored in her caring nature. She loved to travel to visit new communities, cultures and family.
Yolanda was preceded in death by her son, Fernando Montgomery, her parents and her brother, Reuben Quero.
She is survived by her four sisters, Rita Quero of Palmdale, CA, Virginia Flores (Ray) of Lancaster, CA, Vicky Escoto (Mike) of Fillmore, CA, Frances Steen (Rick) of Grand Forks, ND; brother, Larry Quero (Wendy) of Ventura, CA; several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
Yolanda will be laid to rest beside her son, Fernando, at the Meyers Falls Cemetery in Kettle Falls, WA. A memorial service will also be held in the spring.
