Wilma Ida
Clowser
Mar 20, 1936 — Feb 24, 2025
Colville
"Wilma Ida (Chittenden) Clowser passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on Monday, February 24th, 2025. She was born on March 20, 1936, to William "Bill" Chittenden and Gladys Chittenden in Nampa, Idaho. There, she spent her childhood, where she formed the foundation of a life based on love, faith, and community.
At the age of 16, Wilma met the love of her life, Bernard "Barney" Clowser, at a church event, and on August 25, 1953, they were married in Winnemucca, NV. The early years of their marriage were filled with adventure, moving frequently while they chased jobs and opportunities. They eventually returned to the Nampa region, where they began building their family. Their first son, Creston, was born in 1956, followed by Steve in 1958 and Bart in 1963. Wilma also became a sister with the birth of her brother Billy in 1960.
In 1967, Wilma and Barney moved to Colville, Washington, where they established lasting roots. Together, they embarked on many ventures, including ranching, real estate, and operating various small businesses. Wilma found joy in her own entrepreneurial spirit during her 15 years of selling Avon, which allowed her to engage with her community and make lifelong friends.
Family was at the center of everything Wilma did. She cherished the years raising her three boys, supporting their interests. She and Barney were deeply social, always enjoying time spent with friends, family, and their church community. Wilma was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Colville, where her faith was an integral part of her life. She was recently honored for 39 years of church membership, a testament to her devotion.
Wilma's love extended beyond her immediate family as she became a grandmother in 1979, a role she treasured. She often said her best years were spent with her grandchildren, attending their events, supporting their milestones, and making countless memories. Her retirement years were filled with travel, quality time with family, and gatherings with dear friends. She was actively involved in organizations such as TOPS and The Red Hat Society, and she never missed an opportunity for a game night, particularly her beloved Tuesday card games with her "card ladies."
Wilma's intentionality was unmatched. She never missed a birthday, holiday, or anniversary. She had a gift for making people feel seen and loved, always asking about the details of their lives and bringing family together at every opportunity. Her hospitality was a true gift—whether it was a well-set holiday table, a surprise treat delivery, or an impromptu adventure.
Wilma is survived by her brother, Billy Chittenden (Barb), and her sisters-in-law, Goldie Sandifer and Bonnie Clowser. She is also survived by her three sons, Creston (Luan), Steve (Denise), and Bart (Vicki), all of Colville, WA. She counted her "blessings" often and is survived by her beloved 13 grandchildren and their spouses, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Gladys Chittenden; her in-laws, Willie and Erma Clowser; her beloved Aunt Inis and Uncle Harold; her brothers-in-law, Jack Clowser and Don Sandifer; nephews Ray Clowser and Donny Sandifer; and, most significantly, by her sweetie, Barney Clowser.
What a privilege it has been to love and be loved by Wilma. She lived life fully, loved wholeheartedly, and created a legacy that will never fade. Wilma poured herself into the people and experiences she cherished. And because of that, she will always be with us, in every holiday gathering, every cup of tea or latte, every beautifully set table, and every spontaneous adventure.
The service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 915 S. Cedar Street, Colville, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025. A graveside service will follow.
