In Loving Memory
William Clark Gibbs
William Clark "Bill" Gibbs, age 59, went to be with the Lord following a series of health complications on September 2, 2022 in Spokane, Washington. Bill was born on October 13, 1962 to William and Karoline (Heuwieser) Gibbs, in Munich, Germany where his Father was in the service.
Speaking mostly German until he was 5, Bill and his family moved to his grandparents' home in Clayton to help on their farm. Bill's family would eventually relocate to Spokane, where he would go on to graduate with the Rogers High School class of 1982, while working part time making countertops. Bill would begin working part time at Video Unlimited, a locally owned video rental store, eventually moving into a full-time management position.
Here, he would meet the love of his life, Jennifer, who he worked with at Video Unlimited. She was immediately taken aback by his good looks, mature demeanor, and his pristine Camaro. Bill would go on to Numerica Credit Union, beginning a 27-year career in 1995. The following year, Bill and Jennifer would be wed on June 1 st , and they would go on to welcome three children, Grant, Devin, and Rachel.
Bill was an avid sports fan, whether it be Wrestling, the Spokane Chiefs, Patriots, Mariners, or Gonzaga he was sure to keep up to date on all of the latest stats and records. He and Jennifer even travelled to see Sammy Sosa hit his 62 nd home run with the Cubs in 1998. He also loved rock music, going to countless concerts, including seeing his favorite band Kiss with his wife and children, collecting concert t-shirts and memorabilia along the way. Bill was also a big television and movie buff. He has watched and rewatched the Office and Wonder years countless times among others. His all time favorite movie though was the classic film, Planet of the Apes. His latest favorites were Breaking Bad and Last Man on Earth.
Bill was initially hesitant about becoming a dad. He was 40 years old and wanted to audition for the Amazing Race, but after 6 years of marriage, Jennifer had finally become pregnant, and so began an AMAZING race of their own raising their 3 children. Many fun adventures were had together that the kids will always cherish. Bill was proud of each of his kids' accomplishments and got to see them grow tall and into fine young people.
Bill and Jennifer hiked numerous times up Mt. Spokane as well as 11,000 feet up Longs Peak near Denver, CO. Bill loved to walk Bloomsday, but his favorite walks were with the kids, walking literally all over town to different places. They had many fun adventures together. Devin told his teacher that he walked 500 miles with his Dad over the summer. I'm sure the teacher thought he was exaggerating, but it was an incredible distance none the less! Bill proudly walked thru Riverfront park, though it was hard for him, to see his first son graduate high school. Afterward the family enjoyed a nice limo ride around Spokane and Bill declared "This is so cool".
Although their marriage would not last, Bill and Jennifer remained lifelong friends, continuing to raise their children together in their shared home, and as his health began to decline in 2019, and further worsened in late 2021, Jennifer acted as a constant companion and caregiver, remaining by his side throughout hospital visits and changes in rehabilitation facilities.
Bill appreciated the many cards, support and well wishes and prayers from friends and family as well as special remembrances from his co-workers and friends at Numerica Credit Union. He stayed in touch with the kids thru phone calls, texts and video chats. He loved hearing what the kids were up to and still offered advice. He had groceries and gifts delivered to his family and he missed being home and tending to his many plants and flowers, as well as sharing Cheetos with the dog on Friday nights. The dog misses that too.
Bill was unable to walk and talking became difficult these last few months being on oxygen 24/7 but through it all Bill was a trooper and was a favorite patient in the hospitals and care centers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We trust God that we will see him again one day and rejoice that he is now walking free.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Karoline Gibbs. He is survived by his ex-wife and dear friend, Jennifer Gibbs; his loving children, Grant, Devin, and Rachel Gibbs, and his sisters Linda and Edith.
A memorial service for William Clark Gibbs will be held at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Washington on Friday, September 23, 2022 beginning at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at the Meyers Falls Cemetery.
