In Loving Memory
Wendy Lea Phillips
Wendy Lea Phillips, age 56, passed away unexpectedly in Spokane, Washington on the afternoon of Sunday, August 29, 2021. Wendy was born on August 11, 1965 to Eugene and Joanne (Ferguson) Phillips in Colville, Washington.
Wendy was raised in Colville before relocating to Inchelium at 16 with her family. She spent some time going to school in Inchelium before welcoming her first child, Jenette. Wendy was always a free spirit, and she spent much of her adult life traveling and relocating throughout Washington. She would welcome daughters Tawnya Lea, Tawny Jo, and her son Alex in Inchelium, before moving to Spokane, where she would welcome her last two children, Joseph and Destiney.
After spending some more time traveling, Wendy would settle back down in Inchelium with her children. Wendy was newly sober, something she took great pride in, and she began working at a local deli, quickly becoming the "Deli Queen". Everyone knew that Wendy made the best food in town, and when she left the deli to begin working in child care at the immersion school, everyone was sad to see her go.
Wendy loved kids, so her new career choice was an easy one to make. She worked on her education, later receiving her teaching certification, and she worked her way up to a management position. Wendy became a grandmother to all the kids in school, and in 2009, she was over the moon to officially receive the title of grandma when her first grandchild was born. Any time she could, she would be spending time with her grandbabies and making memories. After her health caused an early retirement in 2017, she would have even more time to do all of the things that made her the happiest, spending time with her family, baking the best cinnamon rolls and bread, traveling the open road on spontaneous interstate road trips, and learning to sew, making ribbon skirts, pajamas, and even baby blankets and wing dresses.
Wendy was preceded in death by her mother, Joanne (Ferguson) Phillips, and her infant daughters, Tawnya Lea and Tawny Jo Simpson.
She is survived by her father, Eugene Phillips; her daughters, Jenette, and Destiney; her sons, Alex and Joseph; six adoring grandchildren that she loved with all of her heart; her sisters, Julie, Gina, Pam, Michelle, and Jennifer; her brother, Bud; half-sister, Barbara; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that will forever miss her carefree spirit.
The funeral services for Wendy Phillips were held on Saturday, September 4, in Inchelium, Washington. Please visit the on-line memorial and sign the guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com. Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is entrusted in care.
