Warren Daniel
Carpenter
Aug 19, 1946 — Feb 26, 2026
Chewelah
Warren Daniel Carpenter, known to many as Dan and lovingly called "Papa D," went home to be with the Lord on February 26, 2026, at the age of 79. He passed peacefully at his home in Chewelah with his children by his side.
Dan was born on August 19th, 1946, in Spokane, Washington, moments before his twin brother Joe, to Tracy and Alice (Cooney) Carpenter. After a brief time in Spokane, the family moved to Chewelah where Dan was raised alongside his 16 siblings.
Growing up in a large family, Dan learned early the importance of hard work, humility, and resilience. In his younger years you could often find Dan and his brothers playing all sports but mostly on a baseball field. Rarely short on teammates, even if it meant bringing along younger siblings, they were as strong in spirit as they were in numbers.
Dan attended St. Mary's Parochial School before briefly attending public school. Determined and independent, Dan earned his GED before enlisting in the United States Military in 1964. During his service, including time spent in Germany, Dan served in heavy artillery and trained hundreds of his peers. He earned multiple awards, reflecting not only his physical strength, but discipline and leadership.
Upon returning home with an honorable discharge, Dan met and married Julie Carpenter Keigley. Together they had three children: Katie, Allison, and Daniel. Dan and Julie remained lifelong friends, setting an enduring example of the love they shared for their children and grandchildren.
Dan spent time in Alaska working alongside a few of his brothers, helping carve out a life through hard work and determination. Cutting rights-of-way, developing property, and operating their own business for a time were memories he often spoke of with his children. Dan later chose to return to Chewelah to be closer to his kids. He worked for several logging companies and later retired from Northwest Alloys.
Dan had a lifelong love for the outdoors and felt most at peace in the woods, where he admired the beauty of pacific Northwest and its wildlife. In his later years, he found joy in tending his vegetable garden. Whether canning his harvest or sharing it generously with neighbors and friends, he lived by his simple philosophy: "If you can't eat it, you shouldn't plant it," a simple reflection of the practical and generous way he lived his life. A man of few words, Dan believed in "A well done is better than well said." His quiet nature reflected a thoughtful, strong, and deeply wise man. Always willing to lend a helping hand and sharing a soft smile.
Dan's greatest joy was his family. He loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally and was fiercely loyal to all those he cared about. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren taking them on walks, fishing and sneaking them treats with a knowing smile.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Dan is at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him, and resting in the presence of the Lord. His life was a testament to quiet faith, enduring love, and the strength of family. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Waverly Tracy Carpenter; his mother Alice Marie Carpenter; his daughter Katie Marie Carpenter; brothers, Waverly Michael Carpenter, Weston John Carpenter, and William Joseph Carpenter, his sister, Candice Marie (Carpenter) Neubauer; his niece, Kathy Marie Bordwell; and his nephews Cabe Clark, Mike Carpenter and Shane Meyer.
Dan is survived by his children, Allison Holloway (James), and Daniel Carpenter (Julie); and his four grandchildren, Kellen, Jensen, Elle, and Gabe. Dan is also survived by his brothers, Wade Anthony Carpenter (Jill), Wayne Mark Carpenter (Carmen), Wesley Chris Carpenter (Cathy), Wendell Thomas Carpenter (Sue), Walter Emmett Carpenter (Chris), Ward Mathew Carpenter, and Wyatt Jimbo Carpenter (Bobbi);his sisters, Becky Marie Meyer(Wayne), Mary Alice Safford(Gene), Susie Marie Duncan(Len), M'Liss Marie Whitney (Scott), and Patty Marie White; as well as numerous nieces and nephews,
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
