She was born in Paris, Texas on January 1, 1924, a New Year's baby, to Thomas Edgar Latimer and Lena Beck Latimer. When Wanda was young, her family moved to New Mexico. She graduated from Roswell High School with the class of 1943.
Wanda met the love of her life, Clarence "Casey" Kassens, at the Roswell Army Air Corp base where she worked as a civilian employee. They were married during World War 2 in 1946 by the Army Chaplain in Salt Lake City just before Casey shipped out for duty overseas . Following the war, they lived in Colorado and Texas, and then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they lived for 20 years. Together they would have one daughter, Debra. Wanda loved to travel and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Wanda was a homemaker for most of her married life. She volunteered as a Camp Fire leader of two groups of Camp Fire Girls for 13 years. In 1973, Wanda went through training to become licensed as a real estate agent and worked in that capacity for about a year in Albuquerque. In 1974, Wanda moved to Richland, Washington when Casey went to work for Hanford Nuclear Industries.
After retiring, Casey and Wanda moved to Colville, Washington to be near their daughter and her family. They spent a few years living in Deer Park and then at Deer Lake. Wanda and her husband resided at the Northpoint Village assisted living facility in Spokane for three years. Six months after Casey's passing, she moved to Lena's Gentle Care in Spokane, Washington, where she has lived for the last year.
