Moscow
Walter Richard "Dick" Hazeltine, age 82, a longtime resident of Moscow, ID, passed away on July 26, 2025 in Pullman, WA. Dick was born on May 28, 1943 in Spokane, WA the son of Walter and Helen Hilda (Thorogood) Hazeltine.
He was raised and attended school in Spokane and graduated in 1961 from Lewis and Clark High School. Dick then entered the U.S. Marines and served for 8 years before his honorable discharge. Upon his return, Dick began a career in telephone communications. He began with the Bell Telephone company which later became the General Telephone Company and more recently Verizon. He retired in 2002. Dick raised his family in the communities of Moscow and Troy, Idaho. He shared a couple of his later years in Chewelah, alongside his wife, Theresa. Together they enjoyed the outdoors and trap shooting. Theresa preceded him in death in 2008. Dick then returned to Moscow, ID where he has resided since.
As his children grew, Dick spent many hours cheering for them on the courtside and field bleachers. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed yearly hunting adventures for deer, elk and other large game. He also offered countless casts into the Clearwater fishing for steelhead. Dick took great pride in his service to the United States as a Marine. He was incredibly meticulous in nature which was very apparent in his perfect yard and organized home. Dick impressed upon his children that everything has its place and should return there after use. He held the bar high for himself and his family.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa, and three sisters, Willa, Jessie and Fern.
He is survived by his daughter, Heidi Braun (Troy) of Colville, WA; sons, Walter Hazeltine of Spokane, WA, and Travis Hazeltine (Sarah) of Virginia; 8 grandchildren, Chad, Slade, Jade, Cole, Avery, Jagger Kamm, Wyatt, Harper-Grey Hazeltine and several nieces and nephews.
