Obituary

TIMOTHY CLEM O'BRIEN passed away unexpectedly, on Monday, October 24, 2022 in Colville, WA at the age of 83. Tim was born on February 10, 1939 in Colville, WA to his parents Timothy Harrison and Margaret Paulson O'Brien.

Tim was a twelve-year senior, graduating from Colville High School in 1957. He played football, baseball and was Homecoming King in 1956.  Tim was also an outstanding Bowler and an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing and kept the family in venison, trout, etc. for many years. He could be found in the back yard of their home spending time practicing his fly casting getting all important techniques down to a 'T'.

As a teenager, he set pins at the bowling alley that was on west first avenue in Colville. Tim recollects some of the bowlers intentionally trying to hit the pins hard enough that they would hit the pin setter. He mowed lawns, worked at Kinder's saw shop, Fogle's car dealership, and painted for Jim Bayley. He knew the value of hard work and was never without a job.

Tim began his regular employment at Arden Lumber in 1957 at the age of 18. He worked there in several capacities. He returned to work there following his military service. He left there to work at Boise Cascade Plywood Plant. His employment at Boise ended when he suffered an accident. This also brought an end to his loved hunting, creek fishing and bowling.

Tim had served in the army and was discharged in 1969. He was in a 'Stryker Brigade' in a Field Artillery Unit which meant that they had to be ready to deploy wherever needed at any time. When he was home on leave, he had to check in with the Sheriff daily so he could be located if the Army called and he was needed somewhere. When his military service was over, he was given the opportunity to re-enlist and serve as one of the "President's 100". He declined.

Tim loved nice cars and took good care of them. At different times he owned a beautiful white Plymouth Fury, a Ford Thunderbird and drove a Lincoln Continental for several years.

Tim also helped out at his parent's tavern, 'Chub's' when needed. He was very social and knew everyone and had a steel trap mind and could today tell others many interesting facts about Colville's history and its residents.

At the new southtown bowling alley grand opening, Maury Wells, a baseball player, came and Tim bowled against him in an exhibition match. He bowled on occasion in Spokane with pro bowlers who wanted him to turn pro because he was so talented.

He married Joanne Todd Wilmoth on December 26, 1978. Joanne's passed away on their 41st anniversary, December 26, 2019. Tim had two children by a previous marriage, Jael Joann and Timothy Richard. When he married Joanne, their family increased by her three children; Sharon (Sherri) May, Eugene Ernest and Janet Lynn.

Tim and Joanne were avid collectors of a variety of treasures. He added many miles on his car driving to yard sales and second-hand stores. The home is busting at the seams with all their finds. He loved spoiling Joanne with jewelry, flowers, etc. They took good care of each other.

Tim loved his home on Lake Roosevelt and spend many hours in his yard making it even more beautiful. He had a variety of flowers and had an especially beautiful rose garden. He also spent many hours in his boat fishing with friends up and down the Lake or pulling into a cove and spending the night.  He was also a past member of the Eagles Lodge in Colville.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Tim and Margaret; his sister, Darlene Joyce and his wife, Joanne. Tim's little buddy, Manny, the dog passed away May 19, 2020. He is survived by his children Jael O'Brien, Timothy O'Brien; Step-children Sherri (Jamie) Verrett, Eugene (Bindy) Wilmoth, and Janet (Stu) Hart, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, his sister Marlene (Dick) Nichols, and by a foster sister, June Peterson.
