Obituary

Thomas Garfield Moore
July 7, 1947 — November 1, 2024

Thomas Garfield Moore, age 77, resident of Kettle Falls, Washington, took his last breath on Earth and first breath in Heaven on November 1, 2024 due to complications of liver cancer. He was born on July 7, 1947 in Fargo, North Dakota. The first of four sons to Robert and Marlowe Moore.

Tom's youngest years were spent in Moorhead, Minnesota. He was under five years of age when his parents chose to begin a new chapter in Northern California, which ultimately led them to settle in Southern California. Tom met and would eventually marry Nancy and they became a family of five. Their three children are Shelly, Mike and Jody.

In his earlier youth into adulthood, Tom found himself in and out of jail/prison. Jesus set him free from a life of addiction and destruction, and made him a new creation, born again into a life of love, hope and forgiveness. By the grace of God, and with the support of Nancy and the Vincent family (spiritual parents), Tom and Nancy continued to grow in their relationship with Christ. Tom left California in 1994, and made his way to Washington state to visit his son Mike, and their lifelong friends, Billy and Denise Rogers. Tom felt led by God to stay, he found a job, then purchased a home and Nancy joined him later. Tom's brothers: Pete, Rich and Rob eventually moved to Washington as well, creating a wonderful and fulfilling place to be with family and friends.

Tom desired to know and serve his Creator. Learning along the way that he had done nothing to earn his salvation, just receive the gift offered to us all. His constant prayer was to be available, help and encourage anyone in need, and for others to find salvation in Jesus Christ. His testimony was proof alone that God performs miracles for all walks of life. Tom believed if God could save him from his stubborn and misguided ways, he felt there was hope for anyone!

Throughout different seasons, you would find Tom involved with the jail/prison ministry, leading home bible studies, volunteering as a greeter at church to welcome all with a smile, a hug or a handshake. Being a greeter sparked joy. He was definitely made for connection. Tom and Nancy also enjoyed being a part of the growing stages of N.E.W. Calvary Chapel.

Tom was an auto mechanic, first by necessity, then as a hobby, which ultimately turned into his own business: "Tom Moore's Restoration — auto body and paint. "He also worked in the oil fields right after prison and spent many years as a heavy equipment operator, working for his father-in-law. In Washington, he worked first for Vaagen's and then years later at Hewes Craft.

If you knew Tom, you knew of his passion for classic cars, especially Chevys. In his lifetime, he attended numerous car shows, watched car auctions, bought and sold cars to restore and a favorite pastime was flipping through the Auto Trader Magazines.

Tom enjoyed listening to oldies tunes especially while playing a friendly game of pool with his brother-in-law, Terry. Tom also spent time watching sports, with his son Mike and brother Rob.

He was a faithful husband, father, brother, uncle, papa/grandpa, mentor and friend to many.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Pete and Rich, in-laws, and three grandchildren, Colin, Payten, and Brittany.

He is survived by Nancy, his wife of 58 years. His children and their spouses, eldest daughter, Shelly, son Michael (Tina), youngest daughter, Jody (Patrick). His youngest brother Rob, his brother-in-law, Terry and his sisters-in-law Gale, Rosie, Ginny. Tom has five living grandchildren; Greg, Danielle, Katlynn, Hannah and Shane, numerous great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
