Thomas E Hern

Thomas E Hern was born in Longbeach California on December 21, 1933 to Irene and Harry Hern. The family moved to Colville Washington in 1940 where they farmed in Echo Valley.

Thomas served in the Army for four years. Most of these years were spent in Germany. He was honorably discharged 1952.

Thomas went to work for the forest service in the engineering department. He designed and built roads.

He met Ruth Maureen McGlasson at a Colville Valley Grange dance. They were married on June 7, 1958.  In 1960, the forest service transferred Thomas to Republic, Washington.

Maureen and Thomas converted to the Catholic Church. Maureen converted first and Thomas followed. The church was an important part of their lives.

Thomas was preceded in death by his brother Gailen and his sister Florence.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Maureen Ruth, their son, Michael and their two daughters, Melody Gillett and Joy Russ. He is also survived by their grandchildren Tommy Kidwell, Samantha Burbank, Ami Sumey, Joe Waterfall, and Matthew Gillett, and great grandchildren, Emily, Caleb, Hunter, Merrick, and Mason, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His memory will live on in our hearts.
