Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Henry Morris, age 92, a 56-year resident of Colville, WA passed away on May 2, 2024 at his home.  Ted was born on February 28, 1932 in Bellingham, WA the son of Alfred Henry and Kitty (Taylor) Morris.

Ted was raised in Darrington, WA where he grew up on the family dairy farm.  As a young boy, Ted learned the value of a 7-day work week and assisted on the farm daily.  He graduated in 1950 from Mount Baker High School in Demming, WA and entered the U.S. Air Force.  He was honorably discharged and returned to Washington.  Ted then went to work setting chokers for a high line logging company in Darrington.  While there, he met a beautician, Mavis Bagg and they began dating.  Ted soon realized that other work opportunities were better for longevity.  He enrolled in barber and business school in Bellingham, WA. Ted and Mavis exchanged vows and resided in Bellingham until 1968.  While in Bellingham, Ted owned and operated "The Gentry" barbershop.  They moved to Colville, WA in one of the worst winters on record, where they had purchased a farm on Kitt Narcisse Road.  They raised their family on the ranch and Ted also auctioneered at the Colville Auction Yard which he owned with Harvey Maier for several years.  Ted tended to the family ranch (Circle M) daily and as his health declined, he reduced the work load and livestock.  He and Mavis later divorced.  He spoke often of his wish to still work that ranch if his health had allowed.  Ted remained in the ranch until his passing.

Ted enjoyed the outdoors where he and his family snow skied, camped, hunted, and fished for many years.  He was known to find a west facing hillside while hunting and take a nap while the other combed the hillsides.  He had a great passion for being on the water whether boating, floating, skiing, tubing, or fishing.  Ted also rode many miles on horseback as well as his motorcycle.  Ted was a regular spectator at the local N.E. Washington Rodeo, Omak Stampede, and Usk Rodeo.  He was a man who had a tough exterior, raised his family to work hard and enjoyed sharing memories about the adventures of his youth.

Ted was a longtime member of the Colville Eagles Lodge and two-time recipient of the Stevens County Cattleman of the Year award.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ted is survived by his three children; Toby Morris (Jodi) of Evans, WA, Justin Morris of Colville, WA and Trina Morris of Tracy, CA; 7 grandchildren, Gunnar, Myly, Kayly, Travis, Tanna, Jacob and Kayla; 6 great grandchildren, Bowan, Hayden, Braylinn, Alianna, Brielle and Dutton; sister, Holly Maier of Colville, WA, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of extended family.
