In Loving Memory

Susan Louise Miller

Susan Louise Miller passed away December 2, 2021 at the age of 74 with her husband and two children by her side after complications from a fall.  She was born in Sacramento, California on February 2, 1947 to Edward and Anna Bowman.  The youngest of four children, Sue knew from a young age that she wanted to become a teacher.  She graduated from the University of Washington and began her teaching career in Oroville, Washington in 1969.  It was here that Sue was introduced to Jim Miller through his sister Liz and her husband Bill Grunst who worked at the school.  Jim and Sue hit it off and would be inseparable for the next 50+ years.  They were married on July 24, 1971 and moved to Kettle Falls where they raised two sons.

Sue began a 30 year teaching career in nearby Orient, Washington in 1973.  She loved being a teacher and this was her life's passion.  She often spent a large portion of her summers at the school preparing for the coming school year.  She was always prepared and anyone who played sports with her sons knew she always had a bag full of items for whatever situation might arise.   Anyone who knew her knew her also knows that she was very generous and kind.  She always joked that she wouldn't leave anything behind and would spend it all, selflessly giving to family, friends and even total strangers.

Sue's health issues force her to retire earlier then she had wanted.  Jim and Sue moved to Spokane in 2004 so she could get her dialysis treatments.  When a dialysis center opened in Colville, this allowed Jim and Sue to move back to the house in Kettle Falls where she spent her final years.  In her later years, Sue needed more and more help to stay in the family home.  Our family wants to thank Helen Farrar, Margaret Olson, Leslie Olson and Laurie Thorpe for all that they did.  You are family but you often went above and beyond and Mom appreciated you more then you will ever know.  The family also wants to thank all the nurses and techs who helped Mom through her dialysis journey.  She was gone sooner than we wanted but we will cherish all the extra years we were given with her.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bill Bowman and her grandson Dorian Miller . Sue is survived by husband Jim, her sister Betty Quackenbush, her brother Mike Bowman, her sons Mike (Leanna) Miller and Carl (Ellen) Miller , her grandchildren Tia (Ray) Fisco, Andrew Miller , Kasen Miller , Madelyn Miller , Easton Miller and one great grandchild Colton Johnson.

The funeral service for Sue will be January 11, 2021 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kettle Falls.  There will be a rosary service at 10AM, followed by a service at 11AM and then internment at the Calvary Cemetery.
