Shirley Mae
Morgan
Nov 22, 1935 — Aug 5, 2023
Colville
Shirley Mae Morgan was born November 22, 1935 in McCook, Nebraska to Barbara Tines & Bucky Hanthorn. When Shirley was 4 her family moved to Jewell, Oregon. Shirley met the love of her life Richard Morgan when she was in 6th grade.
Richard and Shirley wed March 2, 1956, later that year they welcomed their first daughter Sharon. Soon after they welcomed, Judy, Gary, Lori & Todd. Shirley worked at the family restaurant Elderberry Inn, and later became the homemaker, tending to the kids and running errands for the logging business.
Their lives were filled with many adventures in the woods and nights at ball parks, gymnasiums, and fields. They lived in Jewell until the 70's then relocated for a short time to White Pass, WA, then to Orofino, ID (otherwise known by the grandkids as the "bear house"). Shirley bowled on a local women's team and made great life long friends. Richard and Shirley would travel for logging, in the 90's they discovered Eastern Washington, first residing in Orient and then building their home in Kettle Falls, WA where they lived for over 25 years.
Shirley was the definition of a matriarch. When the family gathered it was at Grandma & Grandpa's/Mom & Dad's. Many family memories and moments where spent in their home, celebrating holidays, playing hours worth of card games and enjoying great company and food. Grandma/Mom always had the best meals, you never left hungry, she could whip up anything and feed an army. Grandma's sweet pickles, strawberry jam, fresh pies, pancakes and amazing cinnamon rolls were always a hit. She had so many requests often, we would have to get out the family cookbook to recite them all!
Grandma/Mom always had an ear to lend and was always game for an adventure, but you get to drive! She could be found watching the Bold & the Beautiful during the day, work-ing a crossword puzzle or looking for the next great recipe find. She was always making you your own copies to try. You never left grandma's house empty handed, you either were taking home leftovers, canned goods, baked goods, or a knick-knack she thought you should have.
In the 2000's Richard & Shirley found the love of Yuma, Arizona, and soon bought a lot and shared the love of the foothills with the kids and grandkids. They made many friends and looked forward to their snowbird days.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Richard of 61 years, her parents, sisters Barbara & Helena (brother-in-law Jack), & brother Don.
