Obituary

Shirley Marie (Giddings) Monette passed peacefully from this life surrounded by her family on Friday, June 2, 2023 in Colville, WA.  She was born in Colville on April 24, 1941 the daughter of the late Velma (Brown) Cantrell and Frank Giddings.

She started school in Republic, WA later transferring to Kettle Falls where she was a cheerleader and played basketball and graduated in 1959. Shirley married the love of her life, Harold Monette, on October 11, 1969 and they resided in Kettle Falls where they raised their children. She worked as a waitress at Barney's Café and in varying positions at Rainer Bank, United Security Bank and Key Bank, retiring in 1993. Harold and Shirley owned Monette Excavating and Shirley kept all the books for their business.

When their children were at home, Harold and Shirley spent much of their time boating, camping and attending their children's sporting events. She was active in the community as a Lady Lion and Soroptomist member and helped start Kettle Falls Project Graduation. In their retirement years, Shirley was always up for an adventure and they traveled extensively together visiting over 40 states often taking their grandkids on trips with them. Shirley was also her grandkids' biggest cheerleader and never missed a game or any other event in which they participated. Family was the most important thing to her and hosting family gatherings and holidays were some of her biggest joys in life. Shirley loved reading and watching old movies. She loved all sports and was an avid Seahawk, Gonzaga (Go Zags!) and Kettle Falls Bulldog fan and even won the #1 Fan Award at the state softball tournament. Shirley never met a stranger and was loved and cherished by many in our community.
