Sarah Ida Chapman

Sarah Ida Chapman, age 83, a lifetime resident of Colville, WA passed away on November 17, 2021 in Chewelah, WA at St. Joseph's Hospital.  Sarah was born at home on April 10, 1938 in Colville, WA the daughter of Burt and Anna (Forester) Chapman.

Sarah began school and attended through the seventh grade.  She resided at home where she assisted with the needs of the family home.  At the age of 18, Sarah married Sam Byng and they began a family.  She was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed watching her family grow.  She and Sam divorced. Sarah remained in Colville.  She lived in town but often rode her bicycle to the family ranch which was eight miles out of town.  When unable to peddle the eight miles out and back to the ranch, Sarah traveled throughout town visiting the local businesses just to say hello. The morning phone calls she made to family kept her connected on a daily basis. Sarah mostly enjoyed spending time visiting with friends and neighbors.

Sarah was very independent and had a strong will.  She spent some of her time, staying current on her favorite television programs.  Sarah's community presence and morning greetings will be remembered with smiles.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Tuney and William "Bill" Chapman and her sister, Anna McKinney.

Sarah is survived by her daughter, Anita DeVolve of Spokane, WA; sisters, Irene Enquist of Kettle Falls, WA, Sylvia Hegney and Louise Byrd; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
