Rose Chemino Rabalais' Obituary
In Loving Memory
Rose Chemino Rabalais
Rose Chemino Rabalais passed away on September 7, 2021, in Colville, Washington at the age of 98. Rose was born in Bunkie, Louisiana to Frank and Frances (Imbragulio) Chemino Sr. on April 9,
1923. She had an idyllic childhood with her two younger siblings, Frank Jr. and Sadie, both of whom preceded her in death, and with many other extended family members.
In 1944 she graduated from Louisiana Normal School and returned to teach business education at her alma mater, Bunkie High School. A blind date with Army veteran and offshore oil worker, James Garvey Rabalais led to a 64 year marriage of devotion until his death in 2014.
Soon after being married the couple relocated to Pasadena, Texas where they started a family. In Texas, they raised two children, John Michael Rabalais (deceased) and Madonna Rabalais Jones (Evan) of Colville.
Upon retirement they moved back to their home parish in Louisiana. Rose's talent in wildlife themed oil paintings blossomed there earning many Best of Show ribbons in both Louisiana and Washington. She was active in her local church and especially enjoyed bringing the Eucharist to shut in's. Deteriorating health led them to Colville to live closer to family.
Rose was a caring and loving mother and grandmother. She had two grandsons, Spencer Jones, Helena, Montana, Seth Jones (Brandy), Spokane, Washington, and one great-granddaughter, Stoa. Her bedtime stories were eagerly anticipated and her creative nature shone when she was around children.
Her last years were a song of gratitude. She often remarked how blessed she was by all the good things she had in life. Even through her last months she would reach out with a gentle hand in love and affection.
A special thank you to the staff at Buena Vista Healthcare for their unfailing kindness to Rose in her last years.
