In Loving Memory

Robert William "Bill" Johnson

Robert William "Bill" Johnson Jr., a longtime Barstow area resident, passed away peacefully in Colville, WA on January 18, 2022.  He was born in Spokane, WA on August 15, 1938 to Robert and Virginia (Cheetham) Johnson.

Bill was born and raised in Spokane, WA where he attended Lewis & Clark High School graduating with the class of 1957.  Shortly after graduating, Bill enlisted into the U.S. Navy where he worked as an engine room mechanic making sure whatever vessel he was on ran properly and smoothly.  Bill was stationed in many places all over the world during his 30-year career, more notably Tachikawa AFB and Yokohama Naval Base in Japan, the USS O'Brien on the Mei Kong Delta during Viet Nam, and also in Australia.  Bill retired from his military service and came back to Spokane and started his civilian career.  When Bill retired in Spokane, he married Michele who had two children, Kevin and Deanna.

It was in Spokane where he was introduced to Michele Landry by mutual friends and they hit it off.  Bill and Michele would later marry on August 18, 1984 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spokane, WA.  The new couple honeymooned in Banff, Alberta Canada, a place that they would return several more times.  They family enjoyed taking camping trips to destinations such as Crater Lake and the many National Forests in the Pacific Northwest. Bill loved to fish, and he and Michele would often take trips to Priest Lake to catch the elusive Walleye.  Bill was a member of the Spokane Walleye Club and later, the Lake Roosevelt Walleye Club.  They bought property in the Bartsow area in 1993 and moved a travel trailer there so they could enjoy the property when they came up. They eventually completed their home in 2004 and moved there permanently.  Bill enjoyed making and collecting fishing lures which he proudly displayed.  He suffered a stroke several years back which limited his activities, and a recent stroke in August led to being all but wheelchair bound.  Bill was always happy to lend out a helping hand to those in need.  He made many, many friends along his travels and he will be surely missed by them all.

Bill was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers.  He is survived by his wife, Michele; son, Kevin; daughter, Deanna; brother, Jay Johnston; sister, Pat Timothy.
