In Loving Memory

Robert "Bob" Franklin Madzey

Robert "Bob" Franklin Madzey, age 71, a 7-year resident of the Kettle Falls, WA area, passed  away on September 29, 2021, in Colville, due to the rapid progression of esophageal cancer.  Bob was born on September 16, 1950 in New Eagle, PA, the son of Frank and Mary Alice (Newman) Madzey.

Bob was raised in the Wichita KS area, attending grade school in Wichita and Haysville and graduating Haysville Campus High School in 1968. Following graduation he attended Wichita State University for a year.  From a young age Bob worked at many varied summer and after-school jobs, from harvest hand to highway construction. Following his time at WSU he took a job with Far Mar Co. and shortly after his marriage to Linda Marie Logan in 1971, he began work at Vulcan Chemical.

In the late 70's, following their love of wild places, he and Linda moved to Wyoming, where they spent the next 20 years. After a couple of years working as a house builder and for a commercial contractor, he began a career with Amoco Oil Company in the Building Trades Division of the Casper Refinery.  In 1996, he retired after supervising over the closing and dismantling of the refinery.

Early retirement gave Bob and Linda the opportunity to finally take a real vacation in the form of a road trip into the far north country of Alaska. Following their return to the lower 48, the next 2 years they lived in Dubois, WY,  after which, they returned to Kansas to help aging family members. Back in Kansas Bob filled his time with some short term consulting jobs, followed by renovation of 1800's stone farmhouse. In 2014, Bob and Linda again headed west settling near Kettle Falls.

All throughout the years from the time he was young, Bob was highly focused on physical fitness, and competed in the sport of powerlifting for more than 20 years, setting records and winning numerous regional competitions.  In Casper, he promoted the sport, mentoring area youth, through Boys and Girls Club, both in the gym and hosting annual powerlifting meets. His love of athletics wasn't limited to powerlifting. In school he played football, wrestled, and was on the gymnastic and swim teams. He also enjoyed snow-skiing, mountain biking, back-packing and fishing.

Over the years, Bob shared his knowledge of construction and assisted his family and friends on countless projects.  He was drawn to the art of wood working and in addition to building homes and cabins, he designed and built log furniture, knot boxes and many nature inspired creations. His love of the wild, included wildlife and during his time in Casper, he and Linda  were involved in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, specializing in raccoons. Bob had a big heart for animals and extended his hand to any animal in need from baby mouse to moose.

He was politically active with strong, uncompromising beliefs of taking care of those in need, holding himself and those around him to high standards and ideals.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, at home; sister, Bonnie Hartstein (Harlan) of Wichita, KS; brothers, William Madzey (Linda) of Kingman KS, and Carl Madzey (Cheri) of Prescott, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
