In Loving Memory
Robert "Bob" Cumbo
On February 23, 2023 Robert, "Bob" Cumbo passed away in the presence of his loving family. Bob and his twin sister Bertie were born January 12, 1935, in Twisp Washington to Alva, "Shorty" Cumbo and Irene Ludwig Cumbo. At a young age, the family moved to Chewelah, where Bob graduated High School in 1953. Bob was an avid Football and Baseball player, winning the County Championship with his high school football team. While still in high school, Bob joined the Army National Guard and remained a member of the Chewelah for several years. In 1956, Bob attended a dance at the Colville Fairgrounds where he met the love of his life, Doris Price. They were married on June 30,1957 and began their life together spanning almost six decades, 5 children, 2 foster kids, and 3 towns. In their younger years, Bob and Doris enjoyed time spent with friends and family.
Bob was a long-time member of the Colville Eagles Lodge, even serving for a time as president. Bob was a scout leader for troop 904. Bob loved bowling, camping, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bob was an avid gardener and, while his health allowed him, he was often the first person in the neighborhood to mow his lawn in the spring and the last one to put the mower away in the fall. He worked hard all of his life, working in the mines in his early years, later retiring from Brauner Lumber Mill after 32 years running the planer and working as a graderman.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Doris, his father and mother, Shorty and Irene Cumbo, his brothers, Floyd, Dale and Howard Cumbo, and their wives, as well as his sister Bertie Ashbaugh.
Bob is survived by his five children, Glen (Margaret) Cumbo, Debbie Cumbo, Kelly (Cindy) Cumbo, Sandy (Dave) Smith and Micki (Melvin) Smith. Grandchildren, Cathy (Brandon), Curtis (Randi), Nadine (Mike), Doug, Hannah, Taylor, Lonnie and Vickie (Jason). 11 Great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Bob was a devoted husband and father and will always be remembered by his children for his quick wit.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Colville Eagles Lodge #2797.
