Rebecca Sue "Becky" Sears, age 70, passed away on September 22, 2024 in Colville, WA due to complications cancer. Becky was born on May 20, 1954 in Spokane, WA the adopted daughter of Feddie and Helen Jean (Murock) Houck.
She was raised in Kettle Falls, WA and graduated as a twelve-year senior in 1972. Becky then moved to Spokane where she attended the Glen Dow Academy of Beauty. In 1973, Becky began her family with the birth of her daughter, Angie. She then returned to Kettle Falls where she worked as a beautician. Her family grew again in 1976 when her son, Mike was born. They would travel together to Utah and then Saudi Arabia as a family following worked opportunities. They then returned to the U.S. and Becky worked at the Magic Mirror beauty salon in Colville. She and her family also spent a few years in Yakima where Becky worked at a beauty supply house. Becky would eventually journey back home to Colville with a few "stops" along the way including Spokane, Kettle Falls and Deer Lake. Once home in Colville, she worked at the Super One Bakery before beginning a career with Aladdin Stoves that spanned nearly two decades. She has embraced the opportunity to share in a longtime friendship that turned to love with her longtime companion, Jon Bateman. Becky's eased into retirement with a job at the Statesman Examiner and has enjoyed full retirement for the past 6 years.
Becky worked long days when her children were growing up. They traveled often and which gave them a great respect when life later allowed them to grow roots in the local communities. Becky and Jon were able to travel for recreation and enjoyed stopping at the local breweries to sample the brewmasters recipes. She also spent many hours afloat Lake Roosevelt fishing or hydroplaning by the shoreline to the next fishing spot or around the Barney Bridge pylons on the back to the marina. She would also swing by the local casinos for a bit of luck and a budget from which she never wavered. Her attitude never wavered either, she always brought forth a smile, a laugh, a positive outlook and heart that was always giving. Her love was her family and she always looked forward to the birthday parties, holiday gathering and beach time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was actively involved with the local Washington Pilots Association as a volunteer and helped over the past decade with the fly-in breakfasts at the Colville Municipal Airport
Becky was preceded in death by her parents and her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Helen Houck.
She is survived by her loving companion, Jon Bateman of Colville, WA, daughter, Angie Miland (Mark) of Kettle Falls, WA; son, Michael Hays (Brandon Pellett) of Deer Lake, WA; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members.
A memorial service for Rebecca Sue "Becky" Sears will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Colville Airport. Memorial contributions may be given to any local pet rescue.
