Phillip "Phil"
Buckley Anderson
May 25, 1939 — Jan 20, 2024
Colville
Phillip B. Anderson, a 46-year resident of Colville, WA, passed away on January 20,2024 in Spokane, Washington due to complications of Alzheimer's. Phill was born on May 25, 1939 in Harlem, Montana, the third child born to Walter Eugene and Margaret Elizabeth (Buckley) Anderson.
His family moved to Spokane when Phil was eleven. There he attended St. Aloysius Elementary School and Gonzaga Prep High School. During his high school career, Phil worked as a caddy in several Spokane Golf Courses. He also hitchhiked to Colville and stayed with his Uncle Louis and Aunt Helen Egger. Louis was a mortician in those days and asked Phil to help him move the caskets of Native Americans who were buried near the Columbia River when the Grand Coulee Dam was being built. Some summers were spent gandy dancing on the railroad. After graduating from Gonzaga Prep, his family moved to Southern California where he was employed by Douglas Aircraft and enrolled at El Camino Junior College. It was there where he met Patti Stevers. They were married two years later on June 10th, 1962 and enjoyed over 61 years of a wonderful marriage. Phil joined the Coast Guard reserve. When he was discharged, he enrolled at the California University at Long Beach and graduated with a degree in Business Finance. After five years of marriage, they welcomed their son Brian Phillip and three years later their daughter, Kelly Joy. He was hired to be a branch manager at Brentwood Saving and Loan and quickly worked his way up to the Executive Vice-President position of all their many branches between San Diego and San Francisco. In 1977 Uncle Louis was retiring and offered him an opportunity to move to Colville and take over the flooring part of his business. Phil and Patti agreed that it was the best decision they ever made. They built a cabin on lake Sherry that was enjoyed by both family and friends. Both Brian and Kelly excelled in sports including skiing and all the activities Colville kids enjoy. They had great teachers and thrived in their community. The Egger-Anderson Carpet store kept Phil and Patti busy for several years and then Phil worked as a salesman for Kelly Davis Realty. Before long, Jim Moe asked him to join him as a partner in his insurance firm. That was the beginning of his insurance career. He joined forces with George Bybee and completed some worthy projects including condos, the Fairway Housing Development and the Town Center Building.
When the Dominican Sisters numbers were dwindling, they asked Phil to become their first board chair-person for the Dominican Network (Mount Caramel, St. Josephs, Deer Park, Holy Family Hospitals and Dominicare). He also supported Colville Schools, Mt. Carmel Hospital, Immaculate Catholic Church, and Dominion Heights Meadows Golf Course. Phil joined the Woodland Hills Rotary Club in California. As soon as he arrived in Colville, he became a member of the Colville Club and now has been a Rotarian for over fifty years. He loved his fellowship with these great philanthropic giving people who made such a difference to so many. Phil loved his family without end and was always there to warm the bleachers, shout words of support and when deemed necessary, guidance to the referees. Patti lovingly reflected, "there has never been a dull moment with Phil". He was kind, generous and had a love for others that will be cherished by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his older sister Constance Ursula (Anderson) Egger and his younger brother John Marshall Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Patricia "Patti" (Stevers) Anderson, his son Brian Phillip Anderson (Gail) of Washougal WA and his daughter Kelly Anderson-Knight (Kevin), of Colville WA; two granddaughters; Ashley Knight-Moore (Dalton) and Megan Anderson-Hoe (Garrett); four grandsons Kyle and Scott Anderson, Benjamin and John Knight, four great grandchildren: Colt Moore, Sage and Quincy Knight, Brooklyn Iris Hoe; and his brother and his best friend Pete Anderson (Dail); numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.
