Obituary

Olen Bernard Mabe, lovingly known as "Buck," was born in Elkin, North Carolina on January 24th, 1943.

Olen was a third-generation carpenter who owned three businesses: Buck Mabe Construction, Cumberland Bargain Center, and Buck'n Truck'n. He was a lover of hunting and fishing and had a beloved dog he named Bella, a very good girl who absolutely loved him. He adored rodeos and spent a good deal of his life raising horses while also working the track. He hired jockeys for races and did a lot of buying and selling of horses in his time.

Olen was full of love for his family and had 5 children, being a very caring grandfather as well as a great great grandpa. Olen was a loving father of many, a grandpa, and friend to many as well. His children said the advice he would give could change the world. He has been to four different continents and has visited twenty-seven countries during his time in the Navy.

A beloved item of his was a golden eagle that came from the top of a flagpole his son and daughter in law had bought. He would snag the eagle at any given opportunity and carry it with him always, even laying it on his bedside table as he slept. When Olen was admitted into the hospital his family did all they could to make it as much like home as they could. They brought him flowers, pictures, and anything else that could bring the feeling of home to him while he was away. Morgan and Samantha would soon bring the golden eagle to him for his last three days in the hospital; Olen would hold the eagle close to his chest through every moment, not letting it go no matter what. He was told to follow the eagle home, and he did just that, the eagle being his guide and a great comfort until the end.

Olen passed away August 13th, 2024, in Colville, Washington. His memory lives on, and his love and advice will carry on with those dearests to him forever.
