Obituary

Norman George Willey was born to William "Bill" Willey and Winnford (Hills) Willey.  He had an older sister Eleanor and younger brother Edwin.  Eleanor couldn't say her dolly so she called him Doddy and everyone on Kelly Hill called him Doddy.  Norman lived on Kelly Hill until he went to work in the wheat fields around Connell, WA at the age of 15.

In 1958, at the Northeast Washington Fair, Norman met the most beautiful red head that ever lived and the love of his life, Mary Katherine Garvey.  Norman and Mary married on July 2, 1960 (but grandpa Garvey held a shot gun even though she wasn't pregnant).  However, Norman and Mary quickly made up for it, their eldest son Dan was born on November 2, 1961.   Thirteen months later twins David and Dale were born on December 5, 1962 and twelve months later the youngest Annetta was born on December 27, 1963.  Grandpa Garvey brought the shotgun out again and said "Okay, enough is enough".   With no additional children upon Grandpa Garvey's advice, Norman and Mary were married for 62 wonderful years.  They lived in the Gillette Mountain area until 1975 when they moved to the Garvey place on Douglas Falls Road where they currently reside.

Norm was always fair, friendly, a caring husband, father and friend.  He is survived by his wife Mary, three sons Dan, David (Raena), Dale (Jewell) and daughter Annetta.  One brother Edwin (Roberta), 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren including one on the way and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his mother, father and his sister Eleanor Beardslee.

Norman spent his life working hard for his family.  He served in the national guard until 1964.  Norman was a logger, farmer, trucker and heavy equipment operator.  He enjoyed his family and friends.  He was a savvy card player and loved going to breakfast on Sunday mornings.  As he grew older, he built bird houses that were well known throughout the area.  Norman loved to tell stories.  Each year the deer he shot on Douglas Mountain moved further away, but he always shot him between the eyes.

He believed in the Lord and his wide-open spaces.  His Memorial will be held at the Ag Trade Center on Thursday, September 15 th from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.  He will be dearly missed.
