Obituary

NIK BREWER

Our dad – a devoted husband to Marylin Brewer, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, a brother, an uncle, and so much more, passed away on November 7, 2025.  To say the list of lives he touched is long would be an understatement.

Nik was born February 19, 1943 to Eleanor Roberts and Noel Brewer.  He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Howard Roberts, in Grandview, Washington.

Nik was truly one of the most gifted men you could ever meet. In his early years, he was a musician with The Nomads, filling rooms with his talent.  But it was in his workshop, surrounded by wood shavings, tools, and projects in every stage of creation, that his magic truly came alive.  A master craftsman, he built and repaired homes, crafted knives, built cedar strip recreational and racing canoes, made archery arrows, worked on guns, and shared his knowledge with anyone eager to learn.  He was in his element on the golf course and played in the men's club for many years.  He was an excellent golfer and won a few tournaments.  He also won medals during his years canoe racing.

Nik worked construction as a foreman and a superintendent in the Hanford area for many years.  He often worked with his brother-in-law, Mark Jelinek, on some of those projects.

If he taught you to shoot a bow, put you in a canoe, took you fishing, or had you paddling across a quiet lake, you were blessed.  If you ever sat by one of his glowing fireplaces, sledded down snoy hills under lantern light, played cards at his table, held on tight while he took you 4-wheeling through the woods or went "froggin'" till 2 in the morning – you knew his zest for life.

He was the one who travelled to the mountains for truckloads of firewood, who repaired anything you managed to break (big or small),  who showed up when your road disappeared under feet of snow and no one else could – or would – clear it.  If you were stuck in a ditch, he was there with a rope, a smile, and probably a joke.  Nik had a wonderful sense of humor.

This was our dad.

This was Marylin's husband.

This was Papa Nik.

A man of endless skill, boundless generosity, fierce loyalty, and a heart that lived for helping others.

He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.

Nik is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marylin, his sons – Robert (Taryn), Richard (Shana), Randy (Jamie) and daughter Teresa Brewer; Bonus children – Kathryn (Drew) Houck, Johnny (Linda) Graf and George (Edie) Graf, sister Cindy Jelinek and brother Kim Brewer (Rick), 24 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and Howard, his brother Gay and his son, Ron.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel - 402 E. Main  Chewelah, Washington.
