Nancy
Michel
Jul 7, 1940 — Jun 30, 2023
Inchelium
Nancy Kaye Michel, age 82, a longtime resident of Inchelium, WA passed away on June 30, 2023, at her Inchelium home. Nancy was born on July 7, 1940, in Colville, WA, the daughter of Hairin Benkley and Emma Julia (Moore) Rosenbaum.
She spent many of her growing years on the Rosenbaum Ranch and attended school in Inchelium. In 1958, Nancy graduated from Inchelium High School and was a lifelong "Hornet" alumni and supporter. On October 11, 1955, Nancy married Ronald L. Michel and they welcomed their first son, D.R., in 1959. Their family grew each subsequent year with the births of Julie and Eugene in 1960 and 1961. Ronna would be the last born in 1966. Nancy was actively involved with her children and their needs as they grew throughout the years. She also worked in the Inchelium community, first for Carter's Grocery and then the Rainbow Beach Resort. Nancy also maintained an in-home business of sewing and knitting supplies called the Knit-wit Shop. Once her children were grown, Nancy grew ever more involved in the community. She served for many years on the Colville Indian Housing Authority, Water & Sewer Board, Inchelium Community Days, Inchelium Community College and most recently, was integral in the creation of the Inchelium Cultural Resource Center.
Nancy was not afraid to try new adventures. She attended concerts with her kids from Kenny G. to Kidd Rock. She had a beautiful laugh that inspired giggles and grins and brought a touch of levity to the heaviest of life's moments. Nancy's easy going, caring, inquisitive and fun-loving character will be remembered and missed daily. She had a heart for those in need and left little to question with her direct and no-nonsense approach. When Nancy had a moment to relax, she enjoyed native American historical research, knitting, and basket weaving.
Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Nugent; brother, Ed Rosenbaum and one grandchild, Nigel Michel.
She is survived by her 4 children, D.R Michel, Julie Michel, Eugene Michel and Ronna Michel all of Inchelium, WA; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
