In Loving Memory

Michael "Mike" Anthony Purcell

Storyteller extraordinaire and Retired Fire Chief Michael Purcell will continue to bring smiles and laughter as we remember the life we enjoyed with him. Mike passed away on March 31, 2024 at the age of 61 after a courageous battle with a multitude of medical challenges, culminating in a sudden and final cardiac arrest.

Mike was a lifelong learner and an avid reader. After graduation at Kettle Falls High School, he attended Wenatchee Valley College on a football scholarship. Soon after, Mike became a self-employed contractor in Wasilla, Alaska. After many adventurous years, he relocated to the Willamette Valley in Oregon where he built a family, a career, and even built his own house. With his strong work ethic, and leadership skills he soon became Fire Chief of Fire Station 71. During his 19-year tenure Mike provided his community with an excellent and well managed team, helping those in need with highly trained emergency responders.

Mike's many interests over the years ranged from athletics, music, reading, history, construction, bow hunting, fishing, snow skiing and boating. He lived and worked in the Pacific Northwest, Alaska and New Mexico. Mike loved to share time and stories with family and friends, occasionally with an adult beverage and cigar.

Mike is survived by his beloved son, Mason; siblings, Louise, Joe, Jeanine, Matt & Adam; and many aunts/ uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews. Mike's family will forever be grateful to the kindness and love given to him by Omar, Diana, Andy & Rick Hite.
