In Loving Memory
Marilyn Jean Beattie
On April 10, 2023, our Mom, Marilyn Jean Beattie (1928-2023) followed her husband and our Dad, Robert Beattie, on their way to their next journey, She is survived by her children Glen, Steven, Terri (Crutchfield), James and seven grandkids, nine great-grandkids, and two great-great-grandkids. Mom was born in Scotia, California to Archie and Ivy (nee Foyle) Fairbairn, and was very young when they moved to work the farm in Bow Island, Alberta. It was on the prairie that Mom developed an absolute loathing of snakes! The farm had no electricity or running water and they had to rent a different place in town each winter to survive. When Mom was a teen, the Fairbairns moved to Vancouver BC, then to Ruskin (with its indoor plumbing!) and back to Vancouver. Her teen years were spent enduring WWII blackout conditions and rationing, marching as a cadet while attending John Oliver HS, and listening to Perry Como and Glenn Miller. (Mom loved to sing and as a small child I remember her singing to the radio as she made dinner). She married Robert (Bob) Beattie on December 6, 1948 and started their family in a small house in Burnaby, BC and then on to a brand new house in Port Moody, BC. Mom and Dad moved to Los Angeles in 1962, and upon Dad's retirement, they moved up to Jump Off Joe to enjoy their golden years. Mom was not a fan of winter and loved spring and summer. Opening Day for both fishing and baseball (Angels and Mariners) meant winter was over. She loved to fish and every summer in Southern California the family would pack up the tent trailer and head to the Sierras. At Jump Off Joe she looked forward to Opening Day when she would set up on the dock and pull in a few trout. When Dad passed, Mom moved up to Colville to be close to Steve and his wife Pam.
