With sadness we announce that Marie Agnes Malmede, born February 8, 1923, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at her home in Orient, Washington, at 1:49 am on January 13, 2022 after 98 years of life.

Marie was born in Ottoville, Ohio to Bill and Elizabeth Gulker. After a time, her family moved to Lima where, at fourteen, she met Joe. On June 9, 1941, she became his devoted companion of more than 76 years and the mother of their five daughters, Joann, Marie, Linda, Jeanie, and Jan.

Marie was a woman of strength and courage, who unflinchingly committed her life to her Savior. She faithfully studied the Scripture, committing it to memory as she faithfully taught the girls to also love Jesus.

She and Joe worked as a team to allow Marie to be a stay-at-home mom in order to provide consistency and security for their family. She contributed to the family economy through her sewing talent, providing beautiful clothes for them, baking delicious bread, providing three nutritious and tasty meals each day, and being frugal with the limited family income.

Marie was involved in many ministries, but first and foremost, she was devoted to her family. In her declining years she often bid family members good-bye with the words: "Let's all be faithful. I want you in the kingdom."

She is survived by her five devoted daughters and their husbands, fifteen loving grandchildren and their spouses, 40 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service for Marie will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Washington, beginning at 11:00 am, with a graveside service to follow at the Meyers Falls Cemetery in Kettle Falls.
