In Loving memory of Lorlie June Peterson

Lorlie June Peterson passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026. She was born on Valentine’s Day, 1930, in Creston, WA, she was the seventh of nine children born to Lorlie and Cleveland Sumerlin. To avoid confusion with her mother, she was always known by her middle name, June.

Following her mother's early passing, June spent a portion of her childhood at the Spokane Children’s Home before finding a loving foster home at age 14 with Tim and Margaret O’Brien in Colville, graduating from Colville High School in 1948. After graduation, June worked for the FBI in Seattle. She later married her beloved husband, WWII veteran Martin Peterson, on October 28, 1949, in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The couple eventually settled in Kirkland, WA, to raise their three children. June spent decades working for the Lake Washington School District, retiring in 1992 as the attendance secretary at Lake Washington High School.

June was deeply devoted to the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. An avid seamstress, she lovingly crafted homemade quilts for each grandchild's High School graduation. In 2017, she and Martin relocated to Spokane to be near family. Martin passed away in 2019, and June spent her final years back in Colville.

June is survived by her sons, Stephen and Lyle (Elena); daughter, Lorella (Mike); eight grandchildren; Andy (Abby), Lyle Jr. (Lisa), Nicholas (A.J.), Justin (Amanda), Hannah, Grace (Brandon), Michaela (David), Adam, and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the LDS Church 260 East Juniper Colville, WA at 11:00 am.
