In Loving Memory
LeRoy Dale Chambers
LeRoy "Dale" Chambers, age 87, passed away peacefully in Spokane, Washington, on June 5, 2022, following a gradual decline in health. Dale was born in Bozeman, Montana, to Everett and Doris (Olson) Chambers on November 18, 1934.
When he was about 6 years old, his family began moving west. A short stop in Yakima led to a permanent settlement. Dale attended Brookside Junior Academy, in Yakima, where, in his early teens, met and fell in love with Patricia Strawn, the love of his life. They wed in 1954. That same year, Dale joined the army as a medic and was sent to Japan during the Korean War.
After discharge, Dale rejoined Patricia in Yakima, where Dale worked at various jobs including funeral director at Shaw and Sons Funeral Home, owning a motorcycle shop, and building houses. While working in a service station and repairing cars, he went back to college to get his degree in Civil Engineering, beginning a long-term career in the Forest Service.
Everywhere Dale lived, he was a member of the local Volunteer Fire Department, eventually becoming a Fire Commissioner in Stevens County District 6 in 1980. He retired from the Forest Service in Colville in 2000. He retired as a Fire Commissioner in 2020.
When Dale wasn't working, he loved fishing and camping; after retirement, he took up woodworking. Building a grandfather clock for his wife, and a wishing well for his daughter, Valerie. He built many items for family and friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, his parents, Everett and Doris Chambers; and his brothers, Robert and Morris Chambers. He is survived by his children, Greg Chambers of Colville; Karen Chambers of Kettle Falls; Valerie Ewert of Deer Park; and his brother, Jack Chambers of Yakima.
