In Loving Memory

Leonard "Sonny" Meyer

Long time resident of Addy, Leonard "Sonny" Meyer passed away unexpectedly at his farm in Summit Valley on Sunday, April 21st, at the age of 76.

He was a valued member of the community where he was always willing to lend a helping hand, building and repairing equipment from his shop.  Through his trade of horseshoeing, he honed his skill at blacksmithing to include wrought iron railings and decor, lamps and works of art.  He had many other interests that included fishing (which inspired him to build 2 aluminum fishing boats), scuba diving, hang gliding, wood working and drum making.

Born in Modesto, California to Joe and Virginia, he came to Washington with his son Tate and settled in Pullman to be near his dad.  It was here that he met his future wife Susi, who was attending WSU and needed a shoer for her horse.  A mutual friend introduced them and love blossomed.  A job offer from Northwest Alloys brought the couple and Tate to Summit Valley in the spring of 1977.  Starting with raw land they built their home and all the infrastructure needed to support breeding horses, raising grass fed beef and running Sonny's fabrication shop.

Sonny is survived by his wife Susi, sister Mary of Modesto, son Tate and grandson Fox of Spokane, daughters Tiffany and Selena and granddaughters Chelsea and Nora of California, nephew Craig and grandniece Samantha of California, sister-in-law Karen, brother-in-law Steve and nephew Ryan of Denver and niece Kristin of Port Angeles.

Friends and family will be gathering at the farm sometime this summer to celebrate Sonny's life.
