Leona Marie
Harris
Jun 3, 1939 — Oct 9, 2021
Kettle Falls
Leona Marie Harris, age 82, a longtime resident of Inchelium, WA passed away on Oct. 10, 2021 in Kettle Falls, WA. Mrs. Harris was born on June 3, 1939 on the Hall Creek Ranch near Inchelium the daughter of Edgar and Phoebe (Toulou) Camp.
Mrs. Harris was raised on the family farm and attended school in Inchelium. She graduated as a 12 year senior from Inchelium High School in 1957. She then married Donald Vern Harris on May 24, 1957 and they began a family. Mrs. Harris worked in the home raising her growing family and assisting with the needs of the family farm. In the early 70's she began teaching cultural art and native beading in the Inchelium High School. In 1978, she and Don became mail carriers and served the rural routes until retirement in 2014. They continued ranching, raising livestock and hay as a family throughout the years.
Mrs. Harris worked long days caring for her family, the farm, her career and her community. She had a great spunk and a touch of ornery that kept her family in line and on their toes. Her sense of humor raised spirits and gave cause to laughter. Mrs. Harris took life in stride and recreated the beauty she saw in art, crochet and bead making. She took time to fish the local creeks and pause, in stride, while watching a butterfly take flight. Her homemade meals, soft giggle and uncanny ability to successfully "pull" treasures from the crane/claw arcade machine will generate lifelong smiles and fond reflections in the heart of those dear to her.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, Don on Feb. 17, 2007 and her brother, Edgar "Buzz" Camp.
She is survived by her three children, Mick Harris (Donna) of Colville, WA, Tony Harris (April) of Inchelium, WA and Vicki Denison (Chuck) of Kettle Falls, WA, 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
The graveside service for Mrs. Leona Marie Harris will begin at 2:00 p.m., Monday, Oct. 18, 2021 at the Kewa Cemetery near Inchelium, WA where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Don. Pastor Shane Moffitt will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of your choice. Please visit the online memorial and sign the guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com. Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is entrusted with the arrangements.
