Colville
In Loving Memory Of
Leon Wayne Mitchell
Leon Wayne Mitchell was born on May 28, 1958, to Clifton and Wanda Mitchell in Spokane Washington. Leon cultivated his passion for the outdoors at an early age, playing outside with his family, enjoying fishing, camping, hiking, water skiing, working on his family's property, and learning new skills from his parents.
Leon graduated from Colville High School in 1976. Eleven years later, he met the love of his life, Shaun, while working as a ski instructor at 49 Degrees North. He asked her to dance and the rest is history. Shaun teases that she learned to ski to catch her man!
They married on April 6, 1991. Leon loved every second of being at the resort. Whether he was out teaching lessons or riding with his friends and family, he was always shredding on the slopes. Their kids, Devin and Karisa, would always challenge him to a race of course.
Leon and Shaun welcomed the arrival of their son, Devin, in February of 1996. Two year later, they welcomed the arrival of their daughter, Karisa, in February of 1998. Their family was always inseparable.
Leon worked hard his whole life. He worked with the U.S. Forest Service as a wildland firefighter for his career. His passion for fighting fire burned hot, but he was always there for his friends and family. The four of them enjoyed camping, skiing/snowboarding, fishing, hiking, days on the river, riding dirt bikes or side by sides, and he loved a good board game. Leon never missed a sports event for Devin and Karisa. He was always cheering them on from the sidelines.
After retiring in 2015, Leon enjoyed traveling with Shaun, wood working, fun projects with Ken, golfing with all of his buddies at the Dominion Meadows course, and spending time with family and friends.
He was devoted, dependable, strong, caring, loving, selfless, and the best role model. He was always there to help a loved one in need, even if it meant learning a new skill just to be able to help out and make sure the job was done right.
Leon and Shaun were the dream team. Their love story and life together were an inspiration.
Leon was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Mitchell, and his father, Clifton Mitchell. He is survived by his sister, Tina (Ken) Baker, his brother, Lyle (Tammy) Mitchell, his mother, Wanda Mitchell, his beloved wife, Shaun Mitchell, their children, Devin (Elaine) Mitchell, Karisa Mitchell, Jesse Torres, and his grandchildren, Levi and Mason Mitchell.
Leon's legacy lives in the hearts and memories of everyone who knew him.
There will be a celebration of life at the Colville Ag Trade Center with food and drinks provided on November 13th, at 3:00 p.m.
