In Loving Memory

John Kendall Marsh

John Kendall Marsh passed away on January 15, 2022 at the age of 82, with family by his side. He was completely trusting in God's will and looking forward to being reunited with friends and loved ones soon when Christ returns.

Kendall was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on October 14, 1939. He completed a Bachelor's degree at Andrews University in Physics and Math. In 1966, he married Joyce (Beaver) Marsh. He enjoyed his work as an electrical and mechanical engineer and held multiple patents from his research during his career.

Kendall was a strong supporter of Christian education. For a number of years, he took a break from the corporate world to work at Indiana Academy where he upgraded the facilities to significantly reduce the expenditures on heating and electricity. He also taught shop classes and supervised student workers. He also served as physical plant manager at Andrews University for several years. He is fondly remembered by his students and co-workers as being hard-working, knowledgeable, and caring. It was during this time that he passed the stringent exams to qualify as a Professional Engineer.

Kendall was a person of faith and lived a life of helping others. After retiring at the age of 60 from running a research and development lab, he spent his remaining years volunteering at his local Seventh-day Adventist churches and schools, including serving as Head Elder at his church and as the radio and television engineer for a local Christian station. He and his wife also had the privilege of starting a church in Indiana. There wasn't anything that Kendall couldn't build or fix, and he often left the house, toolbox in hand, to help a neighbor or new acquaintance. He also installed his own solar energy system and lived on it for many years, which met most of his home's electrical needs.

Kendall loved music and played the trombone, piano, and organ. Many a morning and evening he filled his home with uplifting hymns. He maintained extensive gardens, worked on various new inventions, read avidly on a variety of topics, and woke up early each morning to have Bible studies on his HAM radio with others all over the world. He remained physically active throughout his life and enjoyed water and snow skiing, scuba diving, jet-boating, and weekly pickleball until the very end.

Kendall is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Marsh; their two daughters, Michelle (Ken) Smith and Janelle (Martin) Klein; and grandchildren Jaise and Levi. He is also survived by his sister, Sylvia (William) Fagal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Drs. Frank and Alice Marsh.
