In Loving Memory
Jacob Lee "Jake" Bartelds
Jacob Lee "Jake" Bartelds, passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of September 13, 2022. Jake was born on September 13, 1984 in Chewelah, Washington to Susan Waslewski and Raymond Bartelds.
A lifelong resident of Stevens County, Jake spent his childhood on the family farm in Summit Valley, quickly learning the value of an honest day's work along with his brothers, Dan and Jesse. Jake would begin attending Summit Valley Grade School, continuing on to Chewelah Junior High. While attending Chewelah High School, Jake's artistic abilities began to shine through his mechanic skills, painting and quilt making. He would also begin working at a local dairy milking cows and bailing hay for some of the area farms before going on to graduate with the class of 2003.
After graduating high school, Jake did numerous opportunities to learn many trades including laying floors and carpentry. He then would begin a career in logging work as a skidder operator for many years. He would go on to meet the love of his life, Wendy Miller, and they would begin a relationship together in 2012. Jake would spend several years as a woodsman, and began work as a master woodworker and remodeling houses part time, eventually leaving the logging industry in 2019 to pursue woodworking full time. This is where Jake's true passion lies, and he helped countless people throughout the community in turning their houses into homes. He recently went to work part time as a maintenance employee at Summit Valley School along with working long days of being Jake of all Trades.
His entire life, Jake loved to help people in any way that he could. He was always sure to put others before himself, and there was no job too big or too small, Jake was always happy to help someone in need without anything in return. He could help fix just about anything you could think of. He knew quite a bit about almost everything. He really didn't have much free time, he just made time to be there to lend a giant hand. He cherished time with friends and family as much as he could. He loved making homemade ice cream, hunting, snowmobiling, riding dirt bikes and mud bogging. He managed to make time to create handmade gifts made from refurbished antique wood, and antique restorations.
Jake was preceded in death by his loving brother, Raymond "Dan" Bartelds, and his grandparents, Diane Sinclair and Daniel Waslewski, and Ronald Bartelds; His dear cousin Kerry Waslewski. He is survived by his loving mother, Sue Waslewski-Springer, step father Gary Springer, his father Raymond Bartelds; Jake's loving girlfriend of 10 years, Wendy Miller; his brother, Jesse O'Neil-Bartelds & Ashley Bartelds, stepbrother, Lucas Springer; Nine shining nieces and nephews, Jason, Annabelle, Axel, Jack, Joseph, Ainsley, Aliyah, Dakota and Skylin along with a slew of beautiful kids that lovingly referred to him as "Uncle Jake"; countless wonderful, awesome friends and the loads people he worked for.
A Celebration of Life for Jacob Lee Bartelds will be held at the Addy New Life Christian Center on Saturday, October 1 , 2022, beginning at 1:00 p.m., with a luncheon to follow.
