Jacalyn "Jackie"
Ann Hurn
Jan 11, 1951 — Nov 15, 2024
Evans
It is with very heavy hearts we share with you that our beautiful Jackie has gone to Heaven to be with her sons, her mother and father, sister Lorraine and many others.
Jackie Bennett Hurn was born on January 11, 1951. She attended Marcus Grade School, and Kettle Falls High School. Jackie grew up in Evans, Washington, a small town where everybody knew your name. She spent her youth swimming at the quarries or at the Evans Beach or on the Columbia River with her siblings tagging along. Jackie met Ron Hurn later during one of those summer excursions. They were married in 1968. Just days ago they were trying to count the years of their marriage. She cherished all of her children, Deanna Burke, Ronald Hurn (deceased), Daniel Hurn (deceased), and Christopher Hurn (deceased).
Jackie was an avid hunter. Hunting was a family affair on Hurn Mountain. We would cook big meals and toast the one that got the deer that day, or toast the worst shot, or toasting the beautiful day and all that were gathered. Her potato soup was famous in the family. Jackie and Ron worked hard to build their home and land holdings, but never took a real vacation. Jackie's goal in the last year was to get better and go home to Hurn Mountain.
Jackie was an extremely generous, but private person. She loved her family more than anything. She worked hard to help family members get on their feet when in need. She gave good advice to those who asked.
She grew beautiful gardens and loved her coi pond. She worked very hard to make jams, dried fruit, canned veggies, wonderful candies and many other things for "goodie" bags at Christmas time for us. Big family gatherings were always going on at Jackie and Ron's house, and in Spring, Summer and Fall there were games of horseshoes. Jackie and Ron built competition style pits. Jackie usually always won.
Jackie is survived by her husband, Ronald Hurn, her daughter Deanna Burke, her grandsons, Josh Burke, Nick Harsin and Jack Burke. She is also survived by her siblings, Gene Garske, Mary Bennett Johnson, Susan Bennett Columbini, and Charles Bennett. Many nieces and nephews, and cousins, who loved her very much. Her niece Jessica Bennett was Jackie's caretaker for the last year and a half while she battled cancer. Jessica loved Jackie like a second mother. She barely left her side in the week that Jackie faded away.
