In Loving Memory Of
Irene Opal LaVigne
Irene Opal LaVigne, 102, passed away on November 16, 2025, at her home on Black Lake. Irene was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Born November 12, 1923 in Spokane, WA to William and Opal Gunning. She spent her younger years on the family farm north of Davenport and moved to Chewelah in 1938. She graduated from Jenkins High School, attended Washington State College and raced with the Chewelah Peak Ski Racing Team. In June 1945 she married Norman LaVigne and they shared 68 incredible years together dancing, skiing, fishing, and traveling the world. Irene was a proud P.E.O. member for 77 years. Irene loved spending time at Black Lake, entertaining friends and family. She baked many apple pies and loved visiting at the table after a good meal. As the years went by the scenery, family at the table and the world changed, but Irene's loving heart was constant. She was a true disciple of Jesus Christ and served all those she encountered with humility.
Irene is preceded in death by her mother, father and sister, Janet Gunning. She is survived by her daughter Sherry LaVigne, son Ron LaVigne; grandchildren Christa Zamora (Karl) and Craig Post (Amy); great-grandchildren Cameron, Connor, Carter, Logan and Emily.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in the summer of 2026.
