Obituary

Harry David "Dave" Wilcox Jr., age 77, a longtime resident of Chewelah, WA passed away on Oct. 27, 2023 due to a cardiac event, while cutting firewood north of Kettle Falls, WA.  Dave was born in June of 1946 in Fall River Mills, CA the son of Harry David and Verna (Greer) Wilcox.

Raised on the family ranch in Shasta County, CA, Dave built up his own cow herd, helped with haying, crops, irrigation and moving cattle. He graduated from high school in 1964 and then began driving trucks and equipment for Packway Materials.  He came back to run the ranch for a year after his father died in 1970. He then logged briefly in CA, sold his cows, purchased two cranes, and went to work in the logging industry for almost 20 years in Oregon, Idaho, Washington and Alaska. Along the way, he was able to enjoy his lifelong passion for hunting, and his geology hobby. This hobby drew him to Washington state where he developed a business in the terrazzo industry. After moving to Chewelah, he met Jean Williams. Their mutual love of fishing, hunting, and the outdoors led to marriage in 2005. Together they started their farm raising Hereford cattle, goats, sheep and mules. In 2008 they began Organic Soil Amenders Inc- a soil amendment processing and application company. They operated the company together for the past 15 years.

Dave was an avid reader and self-educated in creating healthy soils for regenerative farming. He had developed strong friendships that fostered great hunting adventures and even better stories. He was never without at least one dog, and there was always more hay in his wallet than cash. He worked hard and had more friends than he knew.  Dave left immeasurable good will in the community.

Preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Norman Taylor, Dave is survived by his wife Jean Wilcox, at the home, son, Harry D. "Russ" Wilcox III (Ling) of Saipan; 3 sisters- Betty, Marie and Cordelia in California, 2 grandsons- Henry and Hazen in Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial drop-in gathering will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on December 8, 2023 at the Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Chewelah, WA.
