Obituary

Harold E. Monette

Harold E. Monette, a 57 year resident of Kettle Falls, WA passed away at his home on Oct. 18, 2026. Harold was born on August 27, 1938 in Spokane, WA the son of Philip Ralph and Lillian Marie (Graber) Monette.

Harold was raised on the family farm near Hunters, WA. He attended school and was a twelve year senior of Hunters graduating in 1956. After high school, Harold attended trade school in the Tri-Cities, where he learned machining and welding - skills that served him throughout his working life and in his hobbies. He later worked at car, tractor & equipment dealerships & auto parts stores in Colville before joining his brother and parents to establish Monette Bros, which specialized in boat repair and snowmobile sales and service.

Harold married the love of his life, Shirley, on October 11, 1969 and they resided in Kettle Falls where they raised their children. In early 70's, Harold and Shirley founded Monette Excavating, which they owned and operated until Harold retired in 2002.

While their children were growing up, Harold and Shirley enjoyed spending time together boating and camping. Even in retirement, Harold remained a “doer,” getting up every morning, putting on his work boots, and pursuing his many interests, including hunting, fishing, gardening, restoring old cars and tractors, and a lifelong passion for collecting antiques. He could fix or build just about anything he set his mind to, whether it involved plumbing, electrical work, equipment, car and boat repairs, woodworking, gardening, Dutch oven cooking or bringing to life any home improvement idea Shirley (or his kids) dreamed up. In retirement, Harold and Shirley traveled extensively together, visiting more than 40 states in their RV.

Harold had a lifelong love of animals. As a boy on the family farm, he had a pet skunk affectionately named George. Dogs, however, held a special place in his heart, and from childhood through his later years, he was rarely without a faithful companion by his side - most recently, his beloved dog, Ty.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Monette; his parents, son Tim Monette, son Allen Charlton and daughter-in-law Darla (Rosen) Charlton. He is survived by his children Ron Charlton (Kelly) of Kettle Falls, Linda Schauls (Steve) of Kettle Falls, Chris Monette of Oklahoma City, Inger Monette of Yukon, OK, Angela Beardall (Scott) of Kettle Falls and grandchildren Nicholas Charlton (Damotra), Todd Schauls, Jennifer Schauls, Kody Hart (Darci), Katherine Monette, Stephen Schauls (Brittoni), Samantha Marmon, Alex Pugh, Micheal Mayfield (Veronica), Ryne Monette, Jesse Pugh (Rachel), Stacy Schauls (Regina), Nathan (Gabby) Beardall and Madelene Beardall (Aaron), sister Marian Neumann and her husband, John of Camas, WA; as well as 19 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at the Meyers Falls Cemetery in Kettle Falls, WA with a reception to follow at TJ’s Hometown Bar and Grill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Washington Fair Association. Please visit the online memorial and sign the guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com .
