In Loving Memory

Harold Mark "Buck" Mason

Harold Mark "Buck" Mason, age 64, a lifelong Inchelium resident, passed away following multiple health battles in the early morning hours of June 29, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.  Buck was born on April 14, 1958 to Harold "Bud" and Virginia "Tootie" (Seymour) Mason in Colville, Washington.

Raised in a home with seven siblings, Buck attended school in Inchelium, going on to graduate with the Inchelium High School Class of 1977, and immediately began a lifelong career as a Timber Sales Officer with the Bureau of Indian Affairs at just 18 years old.  He would soon meet a sweet woman named Cheryl, and the two would begin a family.  The two would be wed soon after welcoming their first child, Mark, later welcoming two daughters, Shelby and Michael.  Cheryl would raise their three children in the home while Buck continued his career in timber sales.

While their union would not last, Buck and Cheryl would maintain an amicable friendship, parenting their children together, for the rest of his life.  He would go on to meet his second wife, Brenda VanSlyke, and the two would be wed on February 10 th , 1995, welcoming three more daughters, Chaynne, Maggie, and Camryn.  By the time health concerns caused Buck to look at retirement in the early 2000's, he had dedicated nearly 35 years of service to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, a position he was incredibly honored to serve in.

When he wasn't busy with work or spending time with his children, Buck was an avid artist, whether his medium was paint, pencil, or wood and horn carving, Buck always ensured that he was using his artistic skills to honor and revere the Native American culture he was so proud to be a part of.  He loved to visit the casino with his friends and family, and he was also an avid gardener who would never pass up the opportunity to work on his yard- or someone else's.  In his younger years, he spent many hours boxing, a sport he continued to enjoy watching long after he had finished competing.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Tootie.  He is survived by his loving children, Mark, Shelby, Michael, Chaynne, Maggie, and Camryn, 9 loving grandchildren, and 6 siblings.

The funeral services for Harold Mark "Buck" Mason were held Friday, July 8 th , 2022 at the Inchelium Community Center, after which he was laid to rest at the Hall Creek Cemetery.
