Obituary

Grover Lee Alby was born on February 23, 1940, in Chewelah, WA, joining his parents, David Lee Alby and Louise Marie (Ely), and his older brother, Eugene.

Grover grew up in Summit Valley. He attended grade school in Summit, and later graduated from Chewelah High School in 1958. Grover was a very social person and had many adventures and friends in the community.

Grover met and married Barbara Wooley in 1961. They welcomed 2 daughters, Judy, in 1962, and Lorri, in 1964. Grover and family moved to the family farm, began milking cows and logging. In 1978, Grover and Barbara divorced.

In the fall of 1980, Grover heard about a woman in the community in need of firewood. This led to his meeting the love of his life, (June) Elaine Alby and their marriage in December. They combined their families with Grover's daughter Lorri still in school and Elaine having two children Darrell and Cyndi. For Grover, Darrell and Cyndi, were now his children as well. Grover and Elaine were then blessed with a son, David, in 1983. Grover and Elaine built a wonderful life together.

They built a house on part of the Alby property and farmed, raised goats, logged and enjoyed having a big garden. Their home was always open to friends, family, and grandkids. Grover was an avid outdoorsman who considered himself fortunate to be able to work as a logger in the woods and then recreate there as well. He found great enjoyment fishing (especially on the river), huckleberry picking, mushroom picking, hunting deer and turkey and the many other outdoor adventures that filled their lives. He also enjoyed picnics, social gatherings and creating friendships with the Summit Valley residents, newcomers and visitors. Grover was a Born-Again Christian with strong faith in God and Jesus Christ. Grover's greatest desire every day was to offer help to others without regard for himself. He had an energetic kindness and with his soft grin, he would share a story of the past or a perfectly placed poem.

Grover was preceded in death by his parents, David and Louise, his brother, Eugene, his in-laws, Robert and June Johnston, and his brother in-law, Robert "Bob" Johnston.

He is survived by his wife of almost 42 years, Elaine Alby at their home. His sister in laws, Susan Alby, Mitzy Johnston, Lorraine Johnston, Kathy (Benny) Otten; his children, Judy (Ron) Hentges of Addy, WA, Lorri (Randy) Price of Spokane, WA, David (Nicole) Alby of Chewelah, WA, Darrell (Debbie) Barnard of Chewelah, WA and Cyndi (Tony) Patburg of Chewelah, WA; grandchildren, Clint (Julie), Taylor and Fletcher Hentges, Mindy (Bryan) Crane, Jesse (Hilary) Brashler, Andy Brashler, Landyn and Addisyn Alby, Alissa (Matt) Helvik, Gage Barnard, Justin (Stepheney) Lane, Cierra (Kenny) Fantasia; sixteen great grandchildren, Caleb and Liam Hentges, Allison, Ariel and Hunter Brashler, Riley, Dylan and Indiana Brashler, Logan and Kaitlyn Crane, Sailor and Lakely Helvik, Kyla, Carsten and Kensley Lane, Tesla Fantasia, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of extended family and friends.
