In Loving Memory
Glendine Elaine Leonard
On Wednesday March 16, 2022 Glendine Elaine Leonard, loving mother of two children and an adventuresome spirit passed away aged ninety-five years and a day from her birth March 15, 1927. Born to Glen and Maude Leonard (nee Fish) at Scotts Bluff Nebraska. Glendine graduated with a BA from University of Nebraska in 1950 and earned her Masters from the University of Colorado in 1972. She raised two children, Glenise and Gordon McKenzie. Glendine was an educator; serving as school librarian to a generation of Colville High
School and Middle School students. A mother, a lover of dogs (but not so much cats), of music and literature; a volunteer, loved and respected by her community.
Oh, the places she'd been and the things she'd seen from a childhood in the western Nebraska dust bowl of the 1930s to the beautiful mountain valley she loved and made her home for these past fifty-three years. She divided her in retirement between her love of travel and the arts; combining them wherever and whenever possible. She was adventurous; taking her twelve-year-old grandson to Disney World when she was in her sixties!
Glendine was a traveler of the world! Asia and Africa, Europe and the Mid-East, across America and Mexico and around the 'horn of South America to return to the place she made in the hearts of her family and those who knew her well. She was tenacious; living a long and glorious life, intensely happy to be alive in each moment, anticipating each day to come and gratified to make the acquaintance of her creator.
Her last years were spent in her home; a place of comfort and refuge made possible by her care givers Lisa Schuerman and Joan Kulesza. Angels who made her dream of remaining in her home to the end come true.
Glendine was preceded in death by her sisters Iris Pringle and Laura Schwab. She is survived by her children Glenise McKenzie (Jennifer Solmssen) and Gordon McKenzie (Susan Werner) and by her grandson Stuart McKenzie (Jamie McKenzie) and great granddaughter Halo McKenzie as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held March 21, 2022 at Colville United Methodist Church, 930 S Elm St. in Colville at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations in her name to the Stevens County Democratic Party would be most appropriate.
