Gerald "Jerry"
Martin Schreier Jr.
Sep 14, 1938 — Jun 7, 2022
Kettle Falls
In Loving Memory
Gerald Martin "Jerry" Schreier Sr.
Gerald Martin "Jerry" Schreier Sr., a longtime area resident, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2022 at his home with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born in Sisseton, South Dakota on September 14, 1938 to Martin and Mary (Donahue) Schreier.
At a young age, Jerry's parents divorced and he would spend time living with his mother and his aunts. When he was seventeen years old, his mother enlisted him into the U.S. Navy where he honorably served at duty stations in Texas and in Italy until his discharge in 1961. Jerry made his way back to Rapid City, South Dakota where he worked as a ranch hand. It was during this time when he met a young lady by the name of Mary Ann Comer who was working at the Long Branch Saloon when he quite literally rode his horse into the bar and picked her up and rode out with her. The couple would eventually marry on November 22, 1966 in Box Elder, South Dakota. Jerry and Mary would welcome five daughters and one son into their lives.
When the children were young, the family enjoyed spending weekends camping in the mountains or taking fishing trips to the lakes, but only if their chores were done. Jerry taught his children values, boundaries, and instilled an ethic of hard work into each of them which they have passed on to their children and so on. Jerry began working as a carpenter for many years and then began working as a mechanic for the local mill. He was transferred to Washington state to the Valley Lumber Mill in Valley, WA and then worked for Brauner Lumber in Kettle Falls until they sold. Jerry worked for White Rock Quarry for a time until a heart attack forced him to retire.
Jerry was ornery when he was younger and sometimes got him in to trouble. He was a hard-working man that loved his family and taught his children honesty and to respect their mother and never to lie or steal. Retirement softened Jerry a little bit and he look forward to horse rides down to Hells Gate with friends, visits from the grandkids, listening to old records of country music, wrenching on old cars and trucks, peanut butter cookies, and spending time with his wife, Mary. Jerry touched many lives and will leave a lasting impression on all those that had the honor of knowing him.
Jerry was preceded in death by a daughter, Georgia Brooks. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; daughters, Christine Oliver, Connie Noyes, Dianna Johnson, Darlene Pope; son, Gerald Schreier Jr.; brother, Vernon Fossom; 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren.
Please visit his online memorial and sign the guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com. Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory have been entrusted with his care.
