In Loving Memory

Frederick "Fred" Merit Pierce

Frederick "Fred" Merit Pierce, age 82, peacefully passed on to Heaven April 29, 2022. Fred was born on December 18, 1939 in Colville, WA the son of Louie and Betty (Meyers) Pierce.

He was raised in Northport, WA where he graduated as a 12-year senior in 1958 from Northport High School. Following graduation, Fred began working for the Stevens County Road Department. He soon traded his shovel for a steering wheel and began driving logging trucks for Lotze Logging and Erickson Logging. As a young man, Fred also served in the National Guard Reserves for two years. On June 21, 1963, Fred married Ronna Jean Carter. They resided in Colville and began a family. Fred purchased his first logging truck and began Pierce Trucking. In the early 1970's, Fred and Ronna purchased the Conoco Station in Colville, operating the service station for two years. He then returned to driving logging trucks and you could hear his CB radio handle "Corn Binder" being used again. At this time the family purchased their family home and 20 acres in Arden. Fred hauled logs for several different companies over the years and in the late 1980's began driving for Doug Rogne Logging where he stayed through retirement. Fred retired in 2011 for the first time. Retirement didn't suit him well, so he began as a part-time driver for Sun Rental. This eventually became a full-time job and he relished the opportunity to share his behind-the-wheel wisdom with the young people he worked with. Fred taught several of the young people how to drive truck and enjoyed being around them as much as they enjoyed him. As his health gradually declined, he reluctantly began to take more time off only to retire a second time in July of 2019.

Fred truly loved driving trucks and he taught both Kirk and Sean how to drive truck and both of them owned their own trucks at different times.

Fred loved to share his time with family and friends no matter the adventure or gathering, he was there. Boating, snowmobiling and hunting outings were favorites throughout the years. As his family grew, his schedule turned to birthday parties, sporting events and the Northeast Washington Fair where he sat for hours watching his grandchildren. To any available listener, he would proudly share their accomplishments and achievements. With grumbling generosity, Fred gave of his time, talents and treasures without regard for his own wellbeing. His colorful expressions and one-liners reached beyond ear-shot and generated grins and often new perspectives on old topics. With his mischievous grin and tipped hat, Fred's memory will forever walk in the hearts of those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Charlotte Olmstead and one brother, Charles Pierce.

Fred is survived by his two sons, Kirk Pierce (Karin) of Colville, WA, Sean Pierce (Julie) of Colville, WA; five grandchildren, Kacie Pierce (Dareon Nash), Karsyn Berkeley (Chase), Nichole, Lane and Ryan Pierce; great grandson Octavius Nash; siblings, Betty Lou Maki of Spokane, WA, Patti Marie Buchignani (Leonard) of Princeton, BC, Ralph Pierce (Sally) of Northport, WA; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of extended family.
