In Loving Memory

Evelyn Charlene Romo

Evelyn Charlene Romo, age 88, passed away surrounded by her loving family on October 19, 2023 at her Colville, Washington home. Evelyn was born on February 17, 1935 to Charles and Bertha (Crawford) Reynolds in Paducah, Kentucky.

In Evelyn's youth, her family relocated to a small mining town in the Mojave Desert, where she lived until young adulthood. It was here that she would welcome her first son, Virgil "Lee" Duke, and meet the love of her life, Oscar Armando Romo. The two were quickly smitten, and were joined in marriage on October 17, 1955. Evelyn and Oscar would go on to welcome James, Michael, Emma and Robert. While Oscar continued his career, Evelyn raised the children in the home and went on to become a registered nurse, a career she proudly served in for many years.

On a visit to Lee after he had relocated to Kettle Falls, Oscar and Evelyn fell in love with the Inland Northwest, eventually retiring and relocating to Colville. While it would take a few years to complete construction of their home, Oscar and Evelyn eventually transformed their property into a peaceful retreat to enjoy retirement together.

Throughout the years, Evelyn was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She sang in the church choir for many years and also helped to honor the memory of fellow members by assisting with funeral luncheons. She also happily served in several other charitable activities in the community, including volunteering for the Mount Carmel Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She was a doting grandmother and great grandmother, using her sewing skills to craft gifts for her grandchildren and other family members, in addition to friends and fellow church members. Her artistic abilities carried over to the stage, through both acting and singing.

Evelyn began performing in her early childhood, continuing on to community theater groups in California and Washington. The years saw her transition from singing first soprano to alto, but her musical skills were always top notch. Evelyn was always a very social person. She loved meeting new people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She participated in many social activities, including the Red Hats and her beloved Bunco group. Her humor shone throughout all of life's trials and tribulations. Even in her final days, surrounded by family, she quipped, "You know, this isn't what I had planned for this week."

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bertha Reynolds; her son, Robert E. Romo; and her siblings, Charles, Bill, Alice and Carol.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Oscar Armando Romo; her children, Virgil "Lee" Duke, James (Holly) Romo, Michael Romo, and Emma Romo; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; brother Robert (Nancy) Reynolds, and sister Ruth (Bobie) Hack, and numerous extended relations. Her brother Robert recently said of her, "I was and am both inspired and grateful for her faith and faithfulness to her Lord and Savior and her devotion to family and friends."

There will be a Rosary said for her on Thursday, November 9 at 6 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Her Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 beginning at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville, WA with a luncheon to immediately follow.
