Elfrieda Ruth
Carlson

Kettle Falls
In Loving Memory
Elfrieda Ruth "Frieda" Carlson
Elfrieda Ruth "Frieda" Carlson, age 92, passed away with her loving son, Kenny, and his wife, Glenna, by her side at his Kettle Falls home on March 18, 2023. Frieda was born on June 19, 1930 in Colville, Washington to Max and Rosalynn "Ruth" (Butte) Hydorn.
Frieda went to live with her grandmother in Northport, Washington at a young age, and began attending school there, before moving in with her aunt, who was a school teacher in Chewelah, Washington. Frieda would go on to graduate from Jenkins High School as the Salutatorian, and began to pursue her dream of nursing by attending nursing school. Frieda would be wed shortly after her first year of school, and the newlyweds would relocate to Utah, welcoming a son and daughter, Kendahl "Kenny" and Rosalinda.
Following her divorce, Frieda and the kids would return to Washington to be close with her family, and she would go on to meet the love of her life, Lloyd Carlson at a Williams Lake Road grange hall dance, and the two would be wed on July 22, 1958 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Frieda quickly found herself at home working the farm on Williams Lake Road with Lloyd, and along with the hands-on assistance she provided, she also taught herself bookkeeping to help with managing the farm's finances.
After her children were grown, Frieda went to work at the Boise Plywood Mill, where she worked for 25 years. She made numerous friends while working there. As Frieda's health began to decline following Lloyd's 2009 passing, her daughter, Linda retired and moved to the farm to live with Frieda. In 2015, Frieda made the difficult decision to leave the farm, and move to her son Kenny's home in Kettle Falls, where she resided until her passing. Frieda kept in touch with Linda by phone every day. Kenny and Glenna's dogs provided some much-needed companionship for Frieda, and if she wasn't sharing her affection with them, she was usually doing word search puzzles, or sharing stories with Kenny and Glenna. Frieda also had a heart for animals, supporting several animal rescue organizations.
Following her diagnosis of colon cancer, Hospice of Spokane provided much needed care, making it possible for Frieda to stay at home with her family. The nurse and Bath Aid were wonderful, caring for her with gentleness and efficiency.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Ruth Hydorn; her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Lloyd Carlson; and her brothers, Leon Sanders and Kenneth Hydorn. She is survived by her son, Kendahl "Kenny" (Glenna) Carlson; and her daughter, Rosalinda Carlson.
Frieda was laid to rest with her husband, Lloyd at the Mountain View Park Cemetery on March 27, 2023. A memorial service will be held at the Kettle Falls Community Church (170 E. 5 th ) on April 22 nd at 11:00 a.m. Dress attire is casual. Finger foods and coffee will be served in the sanctuary following the service in order to give her friends an opportunity to visit.
