Obituary

In Loving Memory

Douglas Walter Hofstetter

Doug passed away May 22, 2025 of lung cancer.  He was born November 18, 1952 to Wanda and Merle Hofstetter.  Doug was the youngest of four kids.  His family lived on a dairy farm on the Addy Gifford Road.  It was hard work.  Doug liked school.  He went to Columbia High School.  While a student, he worked at a local lumber yard cleaning up.  Doug enjoyed riding motorcycles around the woods with his friends. Wayne Yeager was one of his friends.  They used to play cars and trucks in the dirt like boys do.  Doug had a love for horses.  He had a horse called Poncho Villa.  Doug enjoyed riding him everywhere – to his friend's house and around the mountains.

Doug grew up and got married to his first wife.  They had 2 girls – Tiela Melville and Crystal Rosa.  The couple would later divorce.  Many years later, Doug would meet Denise.  They welcomed a son, Samuel Wolfgang Hofstetter, into the world.  Sam was born April 12, 2001.  Five years later, Doug and Denise would marry just before Sam started school.

Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Doug and Denise would spend a lot of time fishing with Doug's dad, Merle.  Merle would call and say, "Get the boat loaded, I'm coming up" and they'd be off in search of a good fishing hole.

Doug was a hardworking man.  He raised cattle and horses.  You could say Doug was a bit of a cowboy.  He could be stubborn and hard headed.  He loved to play his guitar and sing.  The softer side of him enjoyed being in the outdoors – gardening, picking mushrooms and huckleberries.  Doug was a collector of silver, antiques, knives, and guns.  He loved a good Louis L'Amour book and would trade for new ones to read.

Doug is survived by his son, Samuel (Kierstyn) of Kettle Falls; Ex-wife, Denise, daughters, Tiela Melville and Crystal Rosa and his 4-legged best buddy, Bodie.

Services are planned for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2025 at the Cedonia Community Church located at 4562 Hwy 25, Hunters, Washington.  Pastor Ed Dashiell will officiate.  A potluck luncheon will follow the service in the basement gathering space.  A private burial is being planned for a later date.
