Donald “Don” Larry Dashiell, a lifetime resident of Hunters, WA passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026 at his home. Don was born on June 2, 1955 in Colville, WA the son of Ernest and Shirley (Nicholson) Dashiell.
Don was raised on the Harvey Creek Red Angus family ranch where he learned that each day starts early and doesn’t finish until the work is done. He attended the Columbia Elementary School and High School in Hunters where he graduated in 1973. While in high school, he began dating Glenda A. Beardslee. They dated throughout his time at Spokane Community College and Washington State University where he studied animal husbandry. On November 21, 1981 he and Glenda exchanged vows and fulfilled their vows loving one another for the following 44 years. They shared one year in Montana and then returned to Hunters to continue the family ranch and raise a family. Don also worked at LaDuke and Fogle Equipment for16 years as their parts manager. Don served as a Stevens County Commissioner for 9 years and known for his frugalness, he would drive to Olympia for meetings and sleep in his car to save the tax payers dollars. He was a dedicated and loved his community and county. Don’s passion was his lifetime as a rancher raising Red Angus cattle. He sought to raise the perfect Red Angus cow herd through genetics, feed and dedication. He was a cowboy through and through.
Don believed in getting up early, getting dressed and getting going. He had a incredibly strong work ethic and taught that pajamas were only good for sleep. He and Glenda had an open home for anyone to visit or spend a time of respite as needed. Don loved to share lesson of generational wisdom to anyone who wanted to get started in farming and ranching. To the day of his passing, they had a cow herd of 250 head of cattle in their care. Don’s expected excellence from himself and never waivered in his ethics nor respect for others. He had a wonderful sense of humor and wit. His heart was kind and his love offered knowledge, protection and humble presence. With his patience and understanding, he served to make the lives of all he knew better.
Don was a 45 year member and 10 year president of the Stevens County Cattlemen’s Association,; 17 year member and past president of the Cattle Producers of Washington (CPOW); 28 years volunteer fireman with Stevens County District 2 Fire; and a member of the Red Angus Association.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Ernie Dashiell and his brother, Dave Dashiell.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Dashiell at the home, daughter, Christy Traeger (Andy) of Bloomington, IL; grandchildren; Tatum and Collins Traeger; mother, Shirley Dashiell of Hunters, WA; brother, Bill Dashiell of Colville, WA; sister, Doris Ericksen (Dale) of Cedonia, WA; numerous nieces, nephew and a host of extended family and friends.
The memorial service for Mr. Donald “Don” Dashiell will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Cedonia Community Church. He will be laid to rest at the Cedonia Community Cemetery in Cedonia, WA. Memorial contributions may be given to the Stevens County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship Fund at P.O.
