Obituary

On March 1, 2024, Dolores F. Rudloff Smith went to our Lord in Heaven after a courageous battle with cancer. Dolores was born and raised in Burbank, California in 1936 along with her brother Don before WW2.

After graduation, she met her loving and always joking husband, Bob, and they were married in 1955. Dolores and Bob started their life together in California where she went to college for a teaching degree, and he started a construction business. They started a family and raised 3 children, Tim, Bruce, and Melanie. There fondest memories were on a ranch in the High Seirra Mountains where they would spend weekends and summers. While there they learned to love the outdoors and the quiet life of the country. They loved the wide open, non-bustling and less stressful life of the country. That longing for country life led them to take a trip to Canada. They pulled over for a pitstop in what would, eventually, be a new place to call home. They moved to Colville in 1970 and started their new country life in a much quieter place. Here they add one more to their family, their youngest Sue. Dolores started teaching school in Marcus and then eventually Kettle Falls where she taught kindergarten and third grade. She loved helping kids learn and grow and eventually become adults themselves. She eventually retired from the Kettle Falls School District.

Dolores was very adventurous. She was always taking trips, cross country skiing, hiking with her beloved dogs, taking walks, and reading. She was always "on the go". Her favorite past time was spending time with her friends. She had a wonderful network of friends that kept each other busy with adventures. Her magnetic and loving personality would attract friends wherever she went.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Bob who passed suddenly in 2001. Her brother, Don from Hawaii. Her daughter Melanie Fowler in 2021 and Ron Gere, her partner for 10 years, in 2023.

Dolores is survived by her son Tim Smith (Norene) of Colville, WA & Yuma, AZ; their children Stephanie, Shane, Mallory, Molly and Marc; son, Bruce Smith (Julie) of Colville, WA and their son Alex; daughter, Sue VanFredenberg (Jason) of Colville, WA and their children Sable, Brennen and Jaiden. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren and numerous friends that surrounded and loved her to the end.
